You can use fresh or frozen raspberries to make this delicious cake. Good at freezing.

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 16 ounces uncooked elbow macaroni
  2. 2 ½ cups milk
  3. 2 cups water
  4. 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  5. ½ teaspoon salt
  6. ¼ cup margarine
  7. ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  8. 1 ½ cups shredded white Cheddar cheese
  9. ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
  10. ¼ cup panko bread crumbs
  11. ¼ cup real bacon bits
  12. 1 tablespoon snipped chives

Instructions

  1. Combine macaroni, milk, water, garlic salt, and salt in a Dutch oven on a stovetop over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook, stirring frequently so noodles don’t stick to the pan, until noodles are soft and most of the liquid has been absorbed, 7 to 10 minutes.
  2. Remove pot from heat and stir in margarine and pepper until melted. Stir in Cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese until melted.
  3. Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven’s broiler.
  4. Top pasta with bread crumbs, remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese, and bacon bits.
  5. Place Dutch oven under the broiler until topping is lightly browned and crispy, 1 to 3 minutes. Top with chives and serve immediately.
  6. You can use butter in place of margarine, if you prefer.

Wow! Great Recipe!

It was very good. I used real butter instead of margarine. I don’t like artificial food. Other than that, it was really good.

Delicious. Made it with Butter, not margarine. I didn’t know anyone cooked with margarine any more. Butter: one ingredient – churned cream. Once in a while it won’t kill you. Margarine: partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated corn oil… plus 5 more, equally bad for you.

Very good, very easy, very fast. Cheddar flavor too strong, next time I will try to split the cheese between cheddar and American. I will make this again.

Why buy the boxes when this is so easy and better. Don’t think it quite measures up to my old fashioned baked Mac and cheese, but this is much easier and I like the change up. I’d probably add a dash or two of hot sauce. You can of course change the cheeses based on what you like and what is in the refrigerator!

So delicious!

This recipe is great! I have always made mac and cheese by making a cheese sauce and then adding it to cooked pasta. This was a lot easier. I will definitely make this again. One change I made was that I didn’t have macaroni, so I used rotini instead.

I was looking for a Mac and Cheese recipe that included bacon and bread crumbs when I found this recipe. I made it and it turned out great. However, I used real bacon (6 pieces) that I grilled in the foreman grill instead of bacon bits. Also I chose to combine the bread crumbs, cheese and bacon together in a cup and then top the Mac and cheese and that worked great. I do agree it was very easy to make.
