Sharing these little apple pies is the best! Although it is more convenient to use pre-made pie dough, I much prefer to make my own pie crust.

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground sirloin
- ½ cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons milk
- ½ (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 sweet onion, sliced
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ½ (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
- 1 ½ cups beef stock
- 1 cup water
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the patties: Mix ground sirloin, panko bread crumbs, egg, milk, 1/2 packet onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper together in a large bowl; shape into 5 patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties in the hot skillet until browned, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
- Make the gravy: Melt butter in a separate skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté mushrooms and onion in melted butter until tender, about 5 minutes. Stir flour and remaining 1/2 packet onion soup mix into mushroom mixture until combined. Gradually add beef stock and water, stirring continually, until simmering. Reduce heat to medium; cook, stirring frequently, until gravy has thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place browned patties into gravy; simmer until very tender, about 30 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

Love this recipe and so does my husband. We use it all of the time. I see so many comments about it being too salty. First of all Worcestershire is not high in sodium, you cannot really omit to sodium in the soup mix unless you cut it out and use something else but if you want to follow the recipe exactly, just purchase unsalted beef broth. My husband is a kidney patient and this is what we do!
Salisbury steak was very easy to make.I loved the taste of the gravy! I will make this again just have to double the recipe.
I made it for lunch today, and all of us liked it. I did make a few substitutions that i didn’t have on hand. I used vegetable broth instead of the beef stock, and I used 80/20 ground beef instead of ground sirloin. Then I drained off the extra fat from the patties. I also used canned mushrooms instead of the fresh mushrooms. I will make this again.
First time making salisbury steak. So delicious! I had to substitute the gravy but it was still very good.
I skipped the package of onion soup mix and used onion and garlic seasoning instead. Also used unsalted butter and some Georgia wine in the gravy. This was absolutely delicious. I am 74 and made this for my wife and I. The extra gravy will go well with the leftover patties on toast tomorrow.
The recipe looked a little too salty, so I left out the Worcester sauce and used vegetable broth instead of beef broth. The taste and texture was divine. I served it on top of mashed potatoes that I made with the leftover broth. Will make again!
Easy and delicious but just a bit salty. Loved it…thank you.
Turned out delicious. I put it over some mashed potatoes. Everyone enjoyed it
WOW!! ABSOLUTELY DEVINE. LOVE LOVE. THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT. VERY GOOD AND THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DINNER.
Pretty decent as written. Add garlic, salt, used my gut on W sauce, red pepper, cornstarch instead of flour, 1/2 cup more beef stock, 1/2 cup less water, and double up on butter for gravy.
It was ok. Needed more flavor. It could have been that I used 73/27 ground hamburger too.
Very tasty recipe. It is mushroom season here so I used some wild ones and the sauce turned out great. I will be using this recipe again.
Flavorful and easy to make. This recipe was easy to adapt for my Keto diet. Made my own bread crumbs from Keto burger buns, I used 80/20 ground beef, and keto wheat flour. The gravy and patties turn out great. I will repeat this recipe regularly.
This is the best salisbury steak I’ve ever tried. Amazing!!! Couldn’t ask for a better meal
Absolutely delicious! I followed the recipe EXACTLY as written, and my husband liked it so much, he wanted to eat the extra patties for breakfast the following morning! Now, when we go “bulk” shopping, I buy 10 lbs of ground sirloin, and make up the patties in a big batch, then seal them up in portions with my seal a meal, so that whenever he wants them, all I have to do is defrost the patties and make the gravy. Thank you!
Great recipe. Would make again.
Delicious wouldn’t change a thing!!
I’ve made this several times but I cook the onions and mushroom for a little while before taking them out and cooking the patty. Then I put the mush/onion back in with the broth and simmer. We like it that way!
I made this last night (after my hubby mentioned he didn’t like Salisbury steak). I didn’t have mushrooms for the gravy, so I made my own using a mushroom gravy mix, onions, andthe onion soup mix. It came out so good! Hubby actually ended up liking it, a lot! Saved to my favorites! Will definitely be more prepared next time I plan on making it!
Pretty good but the gravy was too light. Could have used some browning sauce but I was out.
The gravy was actually kind of bland so I had to add 2 beef bouillon cubes.
