With vanilla wafer cookies and banana slices stacked on top, this no-cook banana pudding recipe is simple to make and delicious. I’ve heard from several people that it’s the best banana pudding they’ve ever had.

Prep Time: 25 mins
Cook Time: 40 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins
Servings: 36
Yield: 36 pies

Ingredients

  1. 3 pounds lean ground beef
  2. 2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
  3. 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
  4. 1 bunch (1-inch) pieces green onions
  5. ¼ cup soy sauce
  6. ¼ cup Maggi™ liquid seasoning
  7. 1 tablespoon salt
  8. 1 tablespoon pepper
  9. 1 teaspoon vinegar-based hot pepper sauce
  10. 2 recipes pie crust pastry
  11. 2 eggs
  12. ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, bread crumbs, tomato sauce, green onions, soy sauce, Maggi seasoning, salt, pepper, and hot sauce. You may need to use your hands. Set aside.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  3. Roll out the pie crust dough to 1/8 inch thickness, and cut into 6 inch circles using a large coffee can. Place a heaping tablespoon or slightly more of the meat mixture into the center of the circle, and fold over to make a half circle shape. Crimp the edges together using the tines of a fork, and place the pies on baking sheets. The pies may also be frozen at this point. Whisk together the egg and water in a small bowl using a fork. Brush the egg wash over the tops of the pies.
  4. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. If you are baking frozen pies, add an additional 10 minutes.

I used the idea of this recipe. I recently went to the Caymans and fell in love with the Jamaican Patties. The bread crumbs are key to get the texture right. I used Jamaican jerk specialty seasoning. Handed them over to my papa who is born and raised there. And He said they taste like home…few tips. Sprinkle the pastry before cooking with curry. Add orange peppers or scotch bonnet…and onions. And the jamaican jerk sauce. Only a teaspoon. Its was spicy out the bottle…but perfect when added to meat…bought a rolling pin..just to make more:)

You need to season the meat with Jamaican jerk seasoning. Measure in teaspoons: 2thyme, 2 pepper, 5 garlic, 1 chili powder, 2-3 cayenne, 1 cinnamon, 1/2 ground cloves. I used refrigerated pie crust. Make a large calzone type patty. Turned out great.

The Jamaican Beef Patties were okay. I felt spices over powered each other and was not satisfied with the way the dough turn-out. I tried beef patties in the past and did this not think this recipe came close in flavor to what I was expecting.

Tastes nothing like a Jamaican beef patty. What a disappointment. Islandflav has the real deal.

the meat filing is great but the dough wasn’t tasty.

Too rich and pretty boring. Not worth the unhealthy recipe.

I love them!!!!

I used Kitchen Bouquet Browning and seasoning mix instead of the Maggi liquid seasoning since I didn’t have it on hand. I think that does make a difference in flavor. I ate one straight out of the oven! Both of the seasonings should be in the spice isle of the store. Thank you for sharing!

I could not find the Maggi liquid seasoning so I left it out. The meat was really chalky and tasteless. I doubt I will try these again, even tho it was probably my own fault that they didn’t turn out.
