These originated in my hometown of Inwood, New York, where every Saturday the freshest ingredients are sold at the farmer’s market. It is a different take on the national favorite. Serve ‘the works’ on toasted English muffins, which includes onions, relish, mustard, ketchup, and mayo.
Prep Time: | 25 mins |
Cook Time: | 10 mins |
Total Time: | 35 mins |
Servings: | 8 |
Yield: | 8 burgers |
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 soft sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons bread crumbs
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 8 English muffins, split and toasted
Instructions
- Mix the beef, sun-dried tomato, green onions, garlic, bell pepper, egg, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper together in a bowl using your hands to assure the ingredients are equally integrated. Form into 8 1/2-inch thick patties.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers in the hot skillet until cooked to your desired degree of doneness, 5 to 6 minutes per side for well done. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). Serve on the toasted English muffins.

I’ve made this recipe twice, both times cooking them on an outside grill. I can’t imagine making any other burgers. They come out juicy and flavorful.
One of the best hamburger recipes I’ve ever tried.
My family loved these. The sun dried tomatoes add a zing. I altered the recipe in that I put the meat mix in muffin tin. Put 2 meat muffins on each piece of garlic bread. Made mccormick brown gravy mix and topped with gravy. It was a rave!! Great meat mix.
Lots of flavour. Will make again tonight!
We loved these burgers. The whole family devoured them like it was their last supper!! I think next time I’ll flatten them more to be able to stack other fillings better. We had some on Turkish toast the second night and equally yum. We added beetroot, cheese slices, cucumber, tomato, baby spinach, mayo & our fave sauce.
Too busy, some flavour was lost as a result.
Thanks for the recipe, my family love the burgers
I cooked these in the oven with some Pam spray, they turned out delicious and moist:)
These were really good and flavorful! Will make again.
We loved this burger! I did not have green peppers so I substituted Jalapeños and loved the flavor! We had our burger wrapped in a huge piece of lettuce trying to avoid carbs with some deli mustard and a pickle. Yum yum yum!
My husband, six year old, and I loved these burgers. My two year old was less than thrilled, but he could easily be a vegetarian so his vote doesn’t count in this one. The flavors of the sun-dried tomatoes, green pepper, and green onion gives an ordinary hamburger a big flavor boost. A lot of times we will have trouble getting hamburgers to stick together, especially when they have a lot of veggies added in, but these stayed together wonderfully, and were juicy and moist. I don’t think I would change a thing about this recipe. Thank you for sharing, Chester!
Wow, great burger recipe. I followed recipe exactly. First time I used sun dried tomatoes. Very good.
We love this recipe, not only for hamburgers but by adding ketchup it’s a great meatloaf.
These were fantastic. Whole family loved how moist and flavourful they were 🙂 Will definitely make again.
Very tasty! Good flavor. I used ground chicken breast, and I love these recipes that call for adding chopped veggies to the meat because A) it provides a little extra nutrition B) it stretches out the meat so you get more burgers for cheaper and for less saturated fat – win-win! and C) it keeps the meat nice and moist while it cooks, making it less easy to dry out the meat if you tend to overcook meats like I do. 🙂 Thanks for the recipe!
These burgers were delicious the sun dried tomatos add great flavor
A quick and flavorful burger. I had a little bit of an issue keeping the burgers together in the skillet, but suspect the cause to be that the sun dried tomatoes I used had been marinated in olive oil. English muffins for buns was a nice change to traditional bun. This was a family pleaser. Thanks for posting.
These were very tasty, however not sure if i would make them again as they did foll apart on the grille.
I really like this and will make again. The only thing I would use is a bagette bread instead of an english muffin.
Too Busy, ruins the flavor
These were so good. I didn’t even need ketchup or anything. I made enough to eat the next day and they were better than the day before, even cold.
