Ingredients
- 2 cups apple juice
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
- 2 bay leaves, or more to taste
- 2 racks baby back pork ribs
Instructions
- Combine juice, vinegar, and liquid smoke in a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®). Add bay leaves.
- Add a trivet to the pot and place ribs on top, trimming as needed to fit. Close and lock the lid; set valve to sealing. Choose high pressure and set timer for 15 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
- Release pressure using the natural-release method according to manufacturer’s instructions, about 15 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid.
- Cook on manual for 15 minutes on high pressure if you want ribs to still have a slight pull when biting and be able to brown them on the grill or broil the rack without meat falling off the bone. You can do 25 minutes for extra-tender, almost fall-off-the-bone ribs.

I followed the “fall off the bones” version of the recipe (where you set the pot for 25 minutes instead of 15). The texture was perfect, tender but not mushy. But the flavor was bland (and I generally like mild food) so next time, I’ll just sprinkle the ribs with salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder before I put the ribs in the pot. Still extremely quick and simple!
This was my first time cooking BBQ ribs in the Instant Pot, and they turned out great! I will definitely use this recipe again!
This was a terrific recipe. My guests went crazy over this. I’ll make this many many times. One of the best meals I’ve made with my instant pot.
Made these today, they were fall off the bone tender and delicious. I Used Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. Will definitely be making these again!!!!!
Used Famous Dave’s rub and at the end used Sweet Baby Ray’s bbq sauce and placed in broiler for 5 mins. Very tender and good
Not tender Not flavorful Had to broil it 6 more minutes. Needed more seasoning or a ton of BBQ sauce. Sorry not a winner
Fast and Easy when you want ribs but don’t have all day for grilling. I followed recipe exactly as written and used Sweet Baby Rays Hickory and Brown Sugar sauce. Excellent
Fall off the bone ribs…a little too much. I also took them out slathered them in BBQ sauce and placed under broiler for a few minutes. Fast and easy!!
Made as recipe stated with boneless ribs. Was very flat, so I covered in Sweet Baby Rays Barbecue Sauce and broiled in oven for 10 minutes. Very tasty and tender.
