Very similar to carnival corn dogs. My husband loved them and he is particular about his corn dogs! Things I’ve learned from experience and other recipes that are helpful: 1. Chill the batter for about an hour 2. Have the hot dogs at room temperature and very dry before dipping in the batter. 3. Use a tall glass or wide mouth water bottle for the batter when dipping the dogs. 4. 350-375°F is a good oil temp to get the golden brown color and thoroughly cook the coating. I don’t have a deep fryer, so use a stock pot and candy thermometer. Will definitely keep this recipe.
Delish!! I didn’t have cornmeal, so I used corn flour and a bit more milk to loosen up the batter. They were awesome.
A little less sugar was perfect for my family
This recipe is very nice .Didn’t have yellow cornmeal, added tumeric to white cornmeal.
I never knew how easy these were to make! Kids and other half loved them even asking for cheese, bacon and jalapeños to be added next time!Big hit and Will make again!thanks for the recipe
I made this yesterday. This is more of a question rather than actual review. Do not know what I did wrong, but the batter would not stay on the hot dog. I decided to dip the hot dog in the flour and that help, still the coating ended up being pretty crunchy, not soft. it did not look anything like the ones in the video. Disappointed. Wonder what I did wrong. The only reason I put 2 stars is because site doesn’t allow to submit rating without choosing starts.
So good! I haven’t had corn dogs in years, and this took me right back to my childhood. The flavor was great, but I had some issues with the execution. First, the batter came out way too thick, so I had to thin it down a bit with extra milk. 375F is too hot for the oil. I used a thermometer to make sure I had the exact temp, and they were browning way too fast, so much so that I had to take the first one out after 1.5 minutes. I lowered the temp to 350F and that was much better. It’s very helpful to use a large cup to batter the frankfurters, as shown in the video.
Made this as corn dog fritters. ++Highly recommended!!
State fair quality. I love this recipe. Need to work on getting the batter just right.
My kids love them. Use a glass to dip, like others mention. Makes it much easier.
So easy to make and seriously delicious
First time making corn dogs. Just the two of us, so cut the ingredients by half. The first four we beef sausage links. Came out great. The second group of four we Nathan’s hot dogs. Also excellent. Simple recipe, very tasty. Sorry there are only six in the photo (we were very hungry) 😉
These came out so good . Will definitely make again. So easy! I only made them cause my granddaughter wanted them and I refused to buy those over-priced nasty tasteless things from the store. I had leftover batter and fried it up and made critters; also tasty. I ate mine with brown mustard; granddaughter used ketchup. THANK YOU!!
the batter was tasteless. needs to be spiced up. mine stayed on the dogs because i followed another’s suggestion to flour them up. i thinned the batter after reading some reviews–that was a mistake. the kids don’t want them again. great suggestion to pour into a pint glass–made the coating part easy!
Delicious, thank you for this!!
I love ti food
Wonderful for corndogs and I add jalapeños and grateful onions to make them into hush puppies. So so great!
Great recipe. Definitely need to have a a deep vessel to fry the dogs as they tend to float to the top. I cooked two at a time and they were perfectly corny, sweet, crunchy yet soft on the outside.
This was an amazing recipe highly recommend it to someone who wants to make corn dogs for themselves we didn’t use regular Frank’s we used cheddar sausages so good
I made these with vegan hot dogs. They were too fat and sunk to the bottom. Very heavy. Next time I’ll probably cut the dog lengthwise. Easy recipe though. All ingredients readily on hand.
I just made this but I didn’t have corn flour so instead I used almond flour and it turned out soooooooooo good
