Hawaiian Sausage Skillet

In the same way that there are street tacos, there are street crepes in France. The possibilities are limitless. This crepe dish may be made quickly because rotisserie chicken is used.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or more to taste
  2. 1 (16 ounce) package Polish sausage, or to taste, cut into 1-inch squares
  3. 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  4. 1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch squares
  5. ¾ fresh pineapple – peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
  6. 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  7. ½ cup pineapple juice, or more to taste
  8. ⅓ cup packed brown sugar, or to taste
  9. 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  10. 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  11. 2 teaspoons minced garlic

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir sausage, onion, and green bell pepper until vegetables start to become tender, about 8 minutes; add pineapple and cook, stirring occasionally, until the pineapple is hot, about 5 minutes more.
  2. Beat pineapple juice and cornstarch together in a bowl using a whisk. Stir brown sugar, cider vinegar, soy sauce, and minced garlic with the pineapple juice until the sugar dissolves into the liquid; pour over the sausage mixture and cook until the sauce thickens, 5 to 8 minutes.
  3. You can use orange juice instead of pineapple juice if preferred.

Delicious! I used canned pineapple slices, honey for the sugar, carrots because I had no peppers. Sprinkled a little cayenne in the sauce. Perfect sweet and spicy dish, ready in less than 20 minutes.

Very easy to make. Loved it!!!!!

This was a super easy recipe. We didn’t have cider vinegar so I added fresh lemon and orange juice. I also added ginger paste. It was delicious!

I used beef broth to make a sauce with the cornstarch.

An easy, quick and tasty dinner!

I think the next time I make this I will add snap peas and chestnuts. I probably will use less brown sugar.

Everyone loved it.

I have made this twice and it comes out perfect every time!! I substitute the green peppers for the trio color red, orange and yellow peppers for color. I omitted the garlic as my husband likes to “share” with our dog and used oj instead of pineapple juice.

We’re trying to eat healthier at my house. I used turkey polish sausage, 2 T of monkfruit sweetener and cauliflower rice instead of regular sausage, sugar and rice. It turned out great! Very filling and healthy meal.

turned out great and was super easy!

Not bad for a quick and easy dinner! I chunked my onions and peppers and added some garlic while sautéing. Used canned pineapple chunks and compensated a bit of OJ to make up the 1/2 cup. Pretty much followed the recipe except for only adding 2 Tbsp brown sugar. Next time, I’ll double the sauce mixture and add in some chili garlic sauce to ensure enough sauce for the bed of jasmine rice I served it on. Thanks for the submission!

This is so good. I did add a bit of heat to it, we like things with a little kick. Will be making this again

It turned out GREAT! It thickened up really fast, so I used a little more pineapple juice to help thin it, and the dish garnered rave reviews. Side note: I used the other quarter of the pineapple to make Pineapple-Orange Tartlets for dessert.

Delicious!

I left out the sauce and added Mexican rice and fried potatoes in olive oil.

Cheated and used two cans of pineapple chunks. Doubled the amount of pineapple juice. GREAT starter recipe. Next time will add ginger and snow peas. There WILL be a next time, my girls loved it. The sauce is great as written. Don’t monkey with it until you try it. THEN monkey with it.

I made a few changes. I cut the brown sugar down to 1/4 cup. Used red bell pepper instead of green for some natural sweetness. Added a pinch if red pepper flakes for a little heat. Served with jasmine rice. I have been making some similar using leftover ham. I also like to serve this with a side of steamed broccoli for a veggie boost

This recipe was incredible!! I am not fond of sweet and sour stuff, but this was like sweet and sour sausage on steroids! This was really sweet and delicious. I really liked it and I will make it again and again! I reduced the cornstarch by 1 T. I also sprinkled with salt. I sautéd the sausage, then sautéd the onions, then I sautéd the peppers. I took out the previous ingredients before sautéing the next. Amazing!! Great recipe!!

We were having a pot luck at work and the theme was a Luau – so I made this dish – with one deviation – because it was a Hawaiian Luau I had to incorporate some Spam! So I put half sausage and half Spam – and it tasted really good. Not a Spam fan but with this dish it worked out really well with the sausage.
