Ham and Broccoli Bake

  4.3 – 206 reviews  • Ham

The mini-season between summer and fall, when I want for hearty, warm foods that are nevertheless light and simple to prepare, is the inspiration for this quick and simple dish.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 45 mins
Total Time: 1 hr
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 14 ounces whole wheat rotini pasta
  2. 1 (10 ounce) package frozen broccoli
  3. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  4. 2 cups diced fully cooked ham
  5. 1 (15 ounce) jar Alfredo sauce
  6. ½ cup 2% milk
  7. ground black pepper to taste
  8. 1 cup shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil; cook the pasta in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until tender but not mushy, about 10 minutes. Drain.
  3. Thaw the broccoli in a microwave oven until you can break it apart into small pieces.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat; cook and stir the diced ham in the hot oil until the edges start to brown, about 10 minutes. Stir in the broccoli and cook and stir until any excess water has cooked away and the ham and broccoli are hot. Pour in the jar of Alfredo sauce and the milk; stir to blend, sprinkle with pepper, and add the cooked pasta. Stir everything together to coat the pasta with sauce and bring to a simmer.
  5. Spread the bubbling pasta mixture into the prepared baking dish, top with shredded Colby-Monterey jack cheese, and bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is hot and the cheese is melted and starting to brown, about 30 minutes.

Just like it says, comforting and filling. I made this almost exactly as written because I had the ingredients. I used regular rotini and Colby-cheddar. I think browning the ham made a difference, but I didn’t bother with the simmering step. I just mixed it all in the baking pan. Maybe I should have simmered it. It seemed to come out kind of soupy and didn’t need the milk added.

This is a great recipe. I steamed fresh broccoli and added cumin, coriander and lemon pepper to add flavor. It was good the second day as well.

This was really good and a great thing to make with leftover ham. I’m not a huge fan of jarred alfredo sauce and when I opened a jar that we had opened a few weeks ago, I had to toss it due to age. So I made the Alfredo Sauce from this site with roughly 3k likes and it worked like a charm, although I did double it. I also used shells, rather than rotini, as that is our preference in this house when making mac and cheese, added mushrooms and onions, and blanched fresh broccoli in the pasta water for the last two minutes, before adding it to the mix. I also added some pepper, used mozzarella because that’s the only type I had on hand. Highly recommend this. Thank you so much!

Pretty easy to make. I used fresh broccoli, Turkey ham (non pork eater), and pasta on hand, penne. I forgot the milk but added water to Alfredo sauce to get all sauce from jar. And I forgot to take a photo!! My hubby and son were in the dish before I could’ve one. They LOVED it!!

This was quick and easy. Hubs and the kids love it. I think pre-made alfredo sauce is gross so I made Buttery Alfredo Sauce by Crystal Ward and it was delicious. Would definitely make again. Not low calorie or fat but it’s super good.

Excellent recipe! I made it on the stovetop and substituted Swiss cheese.

Super easy and delicious recipe. My oldest (10yr) has seconds and my two little ones ate without argument so that’s a win in my house!! •I do agree it needs 2 jars of sauce instead of 1. I used two based on other reviews and it was perfect. •I used fresh-steam in the bag broccoli because that has less water than the frozen. •I added a little garlic powder and Parmesan to the ham/broccoli/sauce portion and melted it in before adding pasta. •And totally agree covering with foil for the first 25 minutes to keep it from drying out worked great. I then uncovered for the last 5 minutes to get that nice top cheese melty. Will absolutely make again!!!

Excellent recipe! Very cheesy and just what I was looking for – comfort food! The only difference is I used fresh broccoli instead of frozen. I found the broccoli was an added touch, it made the dish that much more flavourful!

Very good! May try it with regular pasta the next time but there will definitely be a next time

Yummy :-). I made my own sauce because I had heavy cream I wanted to use up. I also used a mixture of two different sizes of egg noodles and a listle of whole-wheat noodle it called for. I didn’t have enough for the recipe, so I decided to use up the ones that had a little left. It was still good. I used whole slices of Colby jack cheese since that was already open. The family loved it.

One of the best broccoli recipes that I like to make. Also pretty good for meal planning.

It was good overall, but I couldn’t find Alfredo sauce in my pantry so I made my own creamy sauce. For that I melted parmesan cheese and added cream and milk. Honestly, I kind of just winged the sauce. Thank you for the recipe!

Incredibly good. I will make this again. Simple and yummy.

The recipe is good, but like others who reviewed it, it needs more sauce and cheese, less pasta. I added two cups of cheese instead of one after reading multiple reviews and my husband made extra homemade alfredo sauce but it wasn’t enough to offset all the noodles you are supposed to put in the recipe. I also added extra broccoli and put panco breadcrumbs on top right before putting it in the oven. I addd garlic, onions, espelette ( a type of red pepper ), everyday seasoning without salt, and a few of my own secrets. It tasted great but like I mentioned earlier, it either needed less pasta or more sauce. But I would definitely make it again with the recommended changes. It is a keeper.

We loved this!!! Only modification I did was swap out the cheese for mozzarella. Was a great leftover food too! The kids ate more than 1 plate ??

Family loved it. I made a few modifications, but all of them would have decreased the flavor not added, so this one’s good even made as a healthier version. I used: Lentil noodles, nonfat milk, and only 3/4 cup of cheese because I was too lazy to grate more. I also forgot the salt and pepper and skipped the entirety step 4. So basically, I boiled some noodles, threw that and 5 more ingredients into a baking dish, heated it up and my family loved it. It doesn’t get better than that!
