Easiest Slow Cooker French Dip

  4.5 – 141 reviews  • Beef

These cookies are quite delicate. Add several flavor extracts if you want to change them for a later time. When I was a girl scout, I received this recipe years ago.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 6 hrs
Total Time: 6 hrs 5 mins
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  1. 3 pounds beef sirloin roast
  2. 1 (1 ounce) packet dry au jus mix
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 8 (1 ounce) slices provolone cheese
  5. 8 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise

Instructions

  1. Place beef roast into a slow cooker. Stir together water and au jus mix; pour over the roast. Cover and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.
  2. Remove the roast from the slow cooker and shred or slice. Open the hoagie rolls and top with beef and provolone cheese. Serve with small bowls of the hot au jus from the slow cooker.

This was extremely easy for a quick weeknight dinner!! Next time I will be doubling the water and only using half the au jus package as the meat ended up a bit too salty. I made it as written using a London broil instead of the sirloin roast. It fell apart and was sooo tender on my French dips.

Substituted one bottle of beer for liquid . Also add horseradish mayo. Mmm.

Easy and great french dips…I added some minced garlic to the roast before slow cooking.

I used this as a base but changed a few things…. I used beer instead of water, one packet of au jus, one package of french onion dip, one onion chopped up and a handful of garlic. Super yummy – served open face over white bread with mashed potatoes!

It doesn’t get any easier than this. The meat was tender and moist and perfectly seasoned. This will be a regular recipe to make on those busy weekends.

Didn’t have much flavor. I am somewhat of a beginner cook (trying new recipes)

Yes I will make it again

I’ve made this a lot of times and there are two minor changes I do. Instead of water I use beef broth and I add onion. I just doubled the meat portion of this recipe for a potluck and made the double portion of the au jus just as the package said for extra sauce. I cut the roasts into bigger chunks and put it into the largest crockpot I had. No onions this time, and it was devoured. This is always a hit when I make it with people asking for the recipe. Sometimes stupid simple is the best way to go.

Awesome and so easy! I, like most suggested, used beef broth and used 2 cups and 1 cup water with the au juis mix…..added a sliced up onion to the bottom, seasoned meat with salt, pepper and garlic powder and added a little oregano…..cut it up, put on hoagie with the onions, provolone and buttered one side of bread and added garlic powder….DELICIOUS

I sliced the meat before cooking and used liquid au jus at the end. Will be making this often.

Good flavor. Simple recipe.

Absolutely delicious and quick and easy to make. I was a vegetarian for 16 years so it is very hard for me to eat red meat unless it’s really tender and this by far is the best way to cook it.

This is so easy and so good. My family loved it. I toasted the bread under the broiler just before serving so it wouldn’t get too soggy.

Very good! I used a 2 1/4 pound london broil otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Easy and tasted great! This will be a regular at our house.

Loved it!! I used a sirloin tip roast which had very little fat and doubled the au jus and water…hence 3# roast and 2 packs of au jus and 2 cups of water. Shredded when done and served with au jus. Mine didn’t seem greasy at all. I actually made another pack of au jus and had it for the dipping since we are big dippers. Love the provolone on it too. Also good with pepper jack. We think it is better if made ahead and frozen in the au jus it is cooked in and then reheated at another time. It seems to be more flavorful!! Can be frozen in smaller or individual containers for easy meals. Just make another pack of au jus for dipping and you are in business!

Very easy to make. I added mushrooms and beef broth. Will definitely make again! 🙂

This was so easy and my family loved it. I shredded the beef and put it on top of hoagie rolls along with a slice of the provolone, then baked them open-faced for about 5 minutes in a 375 oven to melt the cheese and toast the buns. Came out perfect and delicious.

amazing. gone in 10 seconds every time.

This was AMAZING!!!! My whole family loved it, even my 4 yr old! I didn’t have au jus so made my own: 2 tsp beef boullion, 2 cups water, garlic powder, salt & pepper and added oregano to the crock pot as well. Will definaltey make over & over!!! 🙂
