We love this for the beginning of fall. Its a comfort food for our family. We splash a little hot sauce onto the cabbage. We use vegetable stock in place of water to cook the dumplings. Very yummy.
This looks great I might put potatoes in it instead of dumplings or maybe both for men
My mom used to make this ,but added crumbled bacon. Love this.
I make them just like the recipe said except I cooked bacon with mine so good
I really liked the chewy dumplings. It sounded a bit plain, so I added some parsley flakes and a touch of onion powder to them, and cooked the cabbage with diced ham. When I eat it at work I always get people saying that it smells good!
As far as I’m concerned, this recipe needs no adjustments. So simple, so easy, and so delicious, so gosh darned good!
Loved it. Made it exactly as written!
I grew up on these dumplings, my grandma put these in soups etc. You can spice them up with anything brings me back in time!!!
3 stars since I modified the recipe 2 different times. Seasoned the flour for the dumplings and boiled them in vegetable broth. Also, added finely chopped carrots to the cabbage (the recipe directions did not have the carrots as pictured) and seasoned the cabbage for more flavor. Used some of the broth from the boiled water for the dumplings in the cabbage. the second time I used package gnoochi; boiled slightly before adding to the cabbage. Very good and healthy meal.
You can feed a lot of people good hot meal with this. And toss any kind of other veggies for a spin. Awesome
Love this recipe I made one change to it I added bacon and it was delicious
Halušky. I’m Bohemian Czech. Halusky Kapustou / Noodles with cabbage We’d add egg to the batter for the Halušky. Cut or passed through a spätzle maker. Okey dokey!
I made regular dumplings and they were great with the cabbage. Use plain flower in a mixing bowl (maybe a cup or more) and make a nest in the middle. Add golf ball size shortening and approximately 3/4 cup of buttermilk. Mix to a fairly stiff dough, adding buttermilk or flour to desired consistency. Roll out on floured surface to a thin blanket of dough (1/4 “ or less). Slice into strips and drop into boiling water or broth.
It’s a great basic recipe. I learned it from my Romanian mother many years ago. It’s especially good adding Hungarian paprika to the cabbage and onion mixture.
Great recepie. I live near Slovak, AR all Chec’s the original is fried cabbage and potatoes, potatoe grated mush to mix with flour to make dumplings. Takes a minute to make but if you can cook worth every minute.
Simple and super delicious. I make the dumplings with veggie broth instead of just water, then boil them.
Instead of Butter I started it out with Bacon Grease. I used chicken broth instead of water in the dumplings. This was so flavorful everyone loved it! Very filling. Give this a try!
Easy, quick and tasty! It was my first time making dumplings and got confused about how long to cook them. I added a little bit of vegetarian sausage at the end, just for color.
Great recipe for the perfect comfort food! I season the flour and cook the dumplings in heavily salted water. We even added slices of kielbasa one time. Love this dish!
Wonderful recipe This. This was like I remember my Oma made. I added some potatoes. She used to make Kartoffel und Knödel with sauerkraut ot cabbage.
Quick and easy. I like my cabbage a little spicy so added garlic, onion powder, salt and pepper. I didn’t chop, but cut thinly. Next time, I’ll try chopping. Didn’t have any butter (couldn’t believe that) so I cooked in olive oil. Was delish. I enjoyed the dumplings, they are the same dumplings I put in soup so they were good for me. Served with fried fish. Family enjoyed. Will make this again.
