green beans pickled in a spicy sauce using traditional methods. I hope you enjoy this recipe from my grandmother.

  5. 1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce
  6. 1 pound tomatoes, coarsely chopped
  7. 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  8. 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  9. 1 teaspoon salt
  10. ¾ teaspoon dried basil
  11. ¾ teaspoon dried oregano

What I would do different, is to cook the peppers, onions, and hamburger and seasonings separately. add worcestershire and soy sauce towards the end. Cook noodles from separate pot with 2 T of salt after meat and veggies are fully cooked and onions are translucent. Add the tomato sauce, broth, and stewed tomatoes and cook for a few minutes, or until mixed well. after everything is up to temperature, add strained noodles to the pan and mix. To prevent over cooking, I added 2 Tbs of cornstarch to thicken towards the end which made the whole dish a bit thicker, and a thousand times better! As a fellow minnesotan, you hit the nail on the head! My wife is making me write this recipe down

Great flavors and easy to make if you don’t mind slicing and dicing. I make this often. I live with 2 other single dudes. We all like this meal. Never leftovers…

i make this dish just like it is written and it is great. Only comment is that the leftovers can get a soggy texture. Normally there are no leftovers and this is great comfort food

This recipe was awesome! Only change I made was more garlic.

For this Minnesotan, this hotdish is truly a taste of home. It’s exactly like the hotdish my mom used to make! Delicious! Thank you for sharing a very authentic Minnesota staple!

It was good. I used 2 cups of beef broth. Which if I didn’t it wouldn’t of had enough liquid. I don’t know why you need to put the macaroni in the pan with onions and peppers when it’s not cooked it started to burn them. But it turned out good. I wouldn’t put them in the pan with those again.

Everyone loved this at my house, I will definitely make it again and probably double the recipe so we have enough leftovers for everyone. I didn’t have enough onion on hand, but I added some minced onion to make sure I got enough of the flavor to make up for it.

Very easy to make with a very good taste. Family loved it- comfort food not hot or spicy. I used a 14 oz can of diced tomato, and used dehydrated bell peppers instead of fresh (didnt have these items in my produce bin)… came out a little dryer than pictured, but still tasted great.

I needed an easy new “go-to” for my brother and myself, & this is it! Made it with canned tomatoes, without the hot sauce, & definitely without the green pepper! Delicious! Will make this again many times, I’m sure.

Loved it!!! Have made it several times in the last two weeks. I increase the hot sauce to a full teaspoon because I like hot sauce. Great recipe. Thanks.

I didn’t put the salt in , used the entire can of broth . And used caned tomato’s instead of store bought ! We LOVE this !!!!

This was very good, quick and easy. We cut the recipe by half using the serving adjust feature. Everything halved beautifully except the hot sauce which increased to 5/8 tsp from 1/8 probably due to some fraction rule. Despite adding additional hot sauce, it was still delicious I added a dollop of sour cream which made it creamier to my serving.

Tastes like a slightly healthier hamburger helper. Made it without the hot sauce and it tasted great!

I used red pepper instead of green.. Delicious

I made the recipe as directed except for one thing, I only put in 1 cup of elbow macaroni instead of 2 cups. It was very delicious, I will be making this again.

My husband’s favorite…especially this recipe!

This is fantastic! The flavors mix beautifully, the fresh tomatoes give a spark to it that makes you want to eat all of it. I had it for dinner, brought some to work for lunch. Unfortunately the tomatoes loose their spark once in the fridge so it was good but not as good as the same day it was cooked. VERY tasty + filling.
