Level: Easy
Total: 20 min
Active: 20 min
Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 red bell peppers, cut into thick rounds
  2. 2 yellow bell peppers, cut into thick rounds
  3. 1 large yellow onion, cut into thick rounds (large rings only)
  4. 2 cups whole cherry tomatoes
  5. Two 12-ounce boneless rib-eye steaks, about 1 1/2 inches thick
  6. 4 teaspoons Montreal steak seasoning
  7. 4 tablespoon olive oil
  8. 4 tablespoons salted butter
  9. 1 loaf crusty, artisan-style French bread, for serving

Instructions

  1. Position an oven rack on the highest level in the oven. Preheat the broiler on high.
  2. Arrange the peppers on a sheet pan in a single layer. Do the same with the onions and cherry tomatoes. This will create a bed of vegetables for the steaks to sit on.
  3. Lay the steaks directly on the vegetables with an inch or two between the steaks so they aren’t touching. Season the top of each steak with 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning. Drizzle the top of each steak with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Top each steak with 1 tablespoon butter.
  4. Broil until the tops of the steaks are nicely browned, about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and use a set of tongs to flip the steaks over. Sprinkle the other side of each steak with 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning. Drizzle each steak with 1 tablespoon olive oil and top each with 1 tablespoon butter. Slide the pan back into the oven and broil the other side for 3 minutes.
  5. Plate each steak with half of the veggies from the pan. Serve with a chunk of crusty French bread.

We will make again…you can’t beat the speed and taste. We added a minute to the cook time, but otherwise followed the directions as written.

No cherry tomatoes, otherwise broiled as directed on a gas grill. Made flour tortilla burritos with veggies and slices of steak. (Marinated round steak or London broil would also work well.) It was FANTASTIC!!!

I enjoyed making this fast and favorable recipe.

Does it need the peppers to lay on or can you do it directly on rack? Will potatoes work instead?

My husband and I made this last night and it was unbelievable!!!! It was so flavorful and so easy! Great for Friday night after a long work week! We added broccoli and also cooked the steaks for 2 minutes longer on the second side-5 mins each side. Thank you for this recipe Ree!

So just wondering: the top rack of the oven, is this for gas or electric ovens? Mine is gas and has a broiler at the bottom .  No heat element on the top.

Yummy! So easy for weekend supper. Substituted  new potatoes for the bread but need to cook first. Needed to add 2 min to cook the onions and  steak more.  This recipe is definitely  a  keeper!

Excellent recipe! I cooked the steak longer. After 10 mins I removed the veggies so they didn’t burn. Sooo good! Will definitely make again.
