A refreshing drink that can be enjoyed any time of the year.
Level: Easy
Total: 1 hr 15 min
Active: 15 min
Yield: 8 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/4 cups (250 grams) sugar
  2. 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  3. 1 1/2 cups (180 grams) fresh berries, optional
  4. 1 1/4 cups (300 milliliters) freshly squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar, lemon zest and 3/4 cup (180 milliliters) of water in a small pot set over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer. Simmer until the sugar has fully dissolved then set aside to cool completely.
  2. Meanwhile, if using, mash the berries with a wooden spoon, potato masher or blender and add the lemon juice. If desired, strain and press through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the berry seeds and lemon pulp.
  3. Pour into a large pitcher, stir in the cooled simple syrup and 6 cups (1.5 liters) of water. Store in the fridge or serve immediately over ice.

I make my own sparkling lemonade all the time. Thank you for the idea of adding a fruit taste to it. I now add a bit of 100% pomegranate juice to it as well. totally refreshing.

Had some friends over and they loved taste and presentation of lemonade. I cheated and used alittle less sugar as I prefer a more tangy lemonade!! Try it – you’ll love it
