Ingredients

  1. 3 cups water
  2. 1 1/2 cups sugar
  3. 1/2 cup lime juice

Instructions

  1. Fill a large bowl with ice water. Place another bowl inside so it’s surrounded on all sides by the ice water. In a medium saucepan, bring water and sugar to a boil. When sugar has dissolved, remove from heat and add lime juice. Pour into bowl sitting in the ice bath to cool lime mixture, about 15 minutes. Pour mixture into a 10 by 12-inch baking dish that’s sitting on a sheet tray and put in the freezer. After 1 1/2 hours, remove from freezer and scrape the ice with a fork, being sure to mix the softer center with the more frozen outer edges. Put back into the freezer for another 1 1/2 hours. Before serving, scrape again using the fork.

Decided on a Monday to have a dinner on Tuesday (Pasta Bar).  Back in the recesses of my head I remembered this.  I needed something easy and this filled the bill.  I might put a little less sugar next time but we loved it and so did my guests.  Served with a Wedding Cookie to offset the sweet and tart.  Perfect!  Would recommend and will use going forward.  Thank you.

This is great stuff! We’ve made it every year since we saw the show on foot network.

Does anybody here have a clue to what Italian ice is??? This is not Italian ice. This is closer to shaved ice. Italian ice is closer to the texture of sorbet which this absolutely is not!!

It was very sweet because I used sweetened lime juice so I recommend fresh lime juice.

Simple and awesome. i make lemon italian ice with the bottle stuff. though it was 100% lemon juice. only issue i had was took longer to freeze. probably cause i use a bit smaller pan. so it was a bit thinker. but it still turned out really good.

My Family and I loved it..it was cool and refreshing! I did have to change it up a little using lemon juice instead of the lime because it was what I had at the time. Next time I think I will try 1/2 cup less water and adding 1 cup of the lemon/lime juice it was a little sweeter than regular Italian Ice. :

This recipe is simple to make and is so refreshing. I can’t wait to try it again, but with lemon; or maybe I’ll add mint leaves to the lime mixture. YUMMMMM!!!!!!

This recipe is fast, easy and tastes terrific. I added the lime zest to the mix for extra zing! I cooled the syrup mixture and put it in the refrigerator, instead of using the ice bath. Worked great!

Followed the recipe to a tee, and it came out way too sweet. Could easily do with half of the sugar.
