- 8 ounces ground veal
- 8 ounces ground lean beef
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 2 large cloves garlic, minced
- 2 firm, ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1 tablespoon minced gingerroot, or 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh hot green chilies, or to taste
- 3 cups frozen peas
- 1 lemon, juiced, or to taste
- 2 to 3 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro, or to taste

Instructions
- In a nonstick skillet set over moderately high heat, warm the oil until hot. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Add the veal, beef, and salt and pepper to taste, and cook, stirring, until no longer pink. Add the garlic, tomatoes, gingerroot, Garam Masala, and chilies, and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes. Add the peas and continue to cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes more, or until flavors blend. Stir in the lemon juice and cilantro and correct seasoning, adding more salt if necessary. Either transfer to a bowl and serve with warm rotis or tortillas or spoon Keema down center of bread and roll up like a burrito.

This is a fast easy dinner that will easily feed 4 adults. I doubled the garam masala and used at least 2 tablespoons of mixed jalapeños. I also served a cucumber yogurt sauce with it.
Changed the following: olive oil, all veal, one tomato, 3x garam masala, no chilis, 1 cup peas, 1/2 lemon. Served with naan and sour cream, very tasty, will remember chilis and use more tomato next time! Highly recommend
Easy to prepare and tasty flavor, I didn’t have onions, peas or cilantro and substituted shallots, corn and parsley. I will make this recipe again.
I used 1 pound of ground beef, 6 oz of tomato paste, 3/4 cups of water, and cauliflower instead of peas. I served it over white rice and my kids loved it.
This was a really good change of pace. I used venison instead of beef. It was a little spicy without being too hot and it was super easy.
I had a package of organic ground beef and some Le Sueur Peas I needed to use up and decided to try this recipe. It is so nice to find a relatively simple and quick dish that is so tasty. The Le Sueur Peas were a little sweet for this dish, but they were all I had. Otherwise the flavors were so good and harmonious. For those without their own recipe, McCormick’s sells a jar of garam masala that is really good.
Hello, Padma Laxmi ,
This is almost identical to the recipe I use. I only use ground beef.
I also add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder in addition to the
other ingredients.
We like to fill this in shells (Aztec or home made tortilla shells.

So Tasty! I served it in lettuce cups but otherwise followed the recipe directly. I will be making this dish over and over.
Delicious. Spicy and hot. Definitely will cook again.
Love this. It’s easy and delicious. My fiance was skeptical about the quantity of peas, and yet it works perfectly. We like it with naan (we can get it at our grocery store or tortilla chips when the naan runs out. I also usually just use a pound of ground beef instead of half beef, half veal.
