Without having to visit a county fair, you may indulge in a mouthwatering retro treat thanks to this funnel cake recipe. You’ll require a funnel that can accommodate a cup of batter and has a 1/2-inch aperture.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 20 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 1 quart vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
  2. 1 ½ cups milk
  3. 2 large eggs
  4. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  5. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  6. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  7. ½ teaspoon salt
  8. ¾ cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) in a heavy skillet.
  2. Beat milk and eggs together in a large bowl. Combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl; stir into egg mixture until smooth.
  3. Use your finger to cover the funnel hole; pour in 1 cup of batter. Starting in the center of the skillet, remove your finger and move the funnel in a swirling motion to make a 6- or 7-inch round. Fry in hot oil until bottom is golden brown; flip and continue cooking until golden brown all over, about 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels. Continue cooking remaining batter.
  4. Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar and serve warm.
  5. We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.

Turned out kind of meh. Tasted bland with the sugar. Would rather pay the money at a fair. At least they’re good.

My nephew’s dad ABSOLUTELY loves when I make this tunnel cake recipe, he even saids I should sell it at a local fair. Here’s a helpful hint if you want to try it… instead of using a funnel, use one of those squeezable ketchup bottles (obviously clean it out first) you’ll have to cut the film off of the tip of the spout too, it’s the BEST way to make them in my opinion.

Perfect as is. My husband and I like to sprinkle truvia on top for the sweetness. Instead of using a funnel or measuring cup, I pour the batter into a ziplock bag and cut a small tip and use it like a pastry bag. WORKS EXCELLENTLY. I ALSO USE THIS TRICK FOR FILLING DEVILED EGGS !!!

Quick and easy recipe for one of my favourite cravings. I did add 2 tbl spoons of sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla. Definitely will make again and again, my mom had never tried it but finished mine up. Thanks for sharing.

After realizing A l d i’s Baker’s Corner brand Funnel Cake is now contains Bio-engineered ingredients I turned to our trusted allrecipes members for a better alternative. If you’ve a sweet tooth like me, do yourself a favor and add at least a tsp or two of sugar to the batter for a five star recipe. This is the only change I made after realizing the cake was relatively bland. The added granular sugar balanced out the salt perfectly.

It was really good! More like a churro with the cinnamon but still very tasty!

Even with copious amounts of powdered sugar on top, the cake was bland. I found another recipe that includes vanilla in the batter…will definitely be trying that version next time.

Meh; this batter stuck to the fryer basket, & the cake itself lacked some muchness.

I knew this funnel cake didn’t seem to have a lot of flavor. I added 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/4 tsp nutmeg. Along with the powdered sugar i drizzled a Lemon Honey Butter on it. Yum yum

All I could taste was cinnamon. If there wasn’t cinnamon in it there’d be no flavor at all. Shoulda stuck with the other funnel cake recipe that actually tasted like funnel cake

First time making this was last night I couldn’t believe how easy it was! We don’t have a funnel so I poured the batter into a small measuring cup and slowly swirled it around in the hot oil. The first one I made took a long time to cook but I think it’s because the oil wasn’t hot enough but it still turned out good (I let my parents split it they loved it!) the second one cooked in just a few minutes and turned out perfectly! I topped with cooked strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Saved the oil because I’m making them again today lol.

I thought this recipe was absolutely amazing. I changed it up slightly, and added 1 full tsp of cinnamon instead of the 1/2 tsp. I also added about 1 1/2 Tbsp of sugar to the mix. I also fried in peanut oil. Not too sweet, nice crispy outside, moist and fluffy on the inside! Oh, and my entire family loved them!

This funnel cake recipe is the BEST! Tastes like I got it from the fair! Made it a few times so easy!!!!

The taste was very good but i used too small of a funnel so they ended up very crispy. I plan to try again with a bigger funnel.
