  2. 15 craft sticks

  4. 2 cups white sugar
  5. 1 ½ cups water

Remove from heat and stir in food coloring.
  3. Holding each apple by its stick, dip in syrup, remove and turn to coat evenly. Place on prepared sheets to harden.

This is super easy, even for my first time making something like this. The sugar and water mixture really does take about 30 minutes to be ready but it will go a little brown too. I used 1 cup sugar dissolved in 1/4 cup water as a substitute for the syrup, I don’t know if it changed the taste at all but it tasted a bit like roasted marshmallows which was amazing. I also had a candy thermometer that was telling me the mix was at 250 (Fahrenheit) but I got a bit impatient and took it out before it reached 300 because it seemed ready to me. All in all I would totally do this again and it was an amazing recipe!

Perfect, easy to follow and they turned out awesome……a 5 year old could make it, and although I didn’t have a candy thermometer I used an old temp thermometer off the bbq and held it in the sauce with a pair of players and when it hit just over 300………Ta Da eazsy peasy, and clean up was also very easily taken care of…..thank-you, now back to my apple, lol

Wonderful recipe! I never made candy apples, i followed other advice on not stirring after first mixing, then timed it for 20 on medium heat, then at timed it another 10 on medium high. I used a normal grill temomentor

Great Recipe. I’ve read some of the reviews commenting on the recipe’s inability to harden. The same thing happened to me. The problem was quickly rectified by heating the mixture longer. The problem was my thermometer stopped reading at 240 degrees. Also, the original mixture failed the “cold water test”. Another 10 minutes on the stove then the transition occurred rapidly.

Great candy crackle! So simple to make. Just remember to boil at medium-high heat without stirring. Mines took about 25 minutes after the candy started to boil in order to get the precise cracked stage.

The only change I made was to add some cinnamon oil. If you have difficulty with the candy not sticking to the apples, the candy might be too hot. Let it cool for a minute then try. It will start to thicken just a bit when it’s ready.

This is really a great and simple recipe. I read the previous reviews and followed all extra added tips. You must make sure you use a candy thermometer. It takes about 40 minutes of boiled to reach the proper temperature. I would advise to do the cold water test of the mixture prior to dipping. I tried to add Koop-aid to flavor my candy, it is not advisable to add any flavors while mixture is boiled., it changes and becomes bitter. I added color at very end and made beautiful and tasty Marbled Candy Apples.

I added 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon for a little added flavour. Be prepared to wait a while for the mixture to get to the hard crack stage. If you turn up the heat too high it will burn so be patient.

Made this twice. It turned out great both times. Made exactly the first time no problems. Added strawberry extract as an experiment the second time … Don’t do it. Lol! Thanks for the recipe!
