Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cups whole milk, plus extra for serving
  2. 1 1/2 cups quick-cooking (not instant) oatmeal
  3. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  4. 1 banana, sliced
  5. 1/2 cup dried cherries
  6. 1/2 cup golden raisins
  7. Pure maple syrup or brown sugar, for serving

  1. Heat the milk plus 2 cups of water in a medium saucepan until it starts to simmer. Add the oatmeal and salt, bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Off the heat, stir in the banana, cherries, and raisins. Place the lid on the pot and allow to sit for 2 minutes. Serve hot with maple syrup or brown sugar and extra milk.

It’s the prep method that makes this oatmeal so good! Add whatever you want to it. It’s delicious.

The written directions say simmer “4 to 5” minutes but in the video it sounds like she says “45 minutes”– I made the microwave recipe for just one bowl, microwaving for 4 minutes on high, so I think she must be simmering the stovetop method for 45 minutes.

Just a delicious oatmeal recipe! We especially love it on cold, rainy mornings!

This oatmeal recipe is creamy delicious!
I love the tart dried cherries and sweet golden raisins with the banana mixed with it. Topped with brown sugar and a little milk, it makes a wonderful start to your day. Yummy! This recipe is a keeper! Brings back good memories of my mother making oatmeal or porridge on a cold morning.

Best oatmeal I’ve ever had! Use vanilla almond milk because that’s what I have.. I’ve made with all different kinds of fruit. Perfect amount of salt with the sweet- sometimes cut recipe in half-Always delicious! Thanks Ina for a recipe you’d think you wouldn’t really need to follow a recipe for Always perfect!

I just made this and it was creamy, warm and delicious. I did add chopped pecans and found a mixture of cherries, golden raisins and cranberries. I added maple syrup and brown sugar for sweetness and a splash of cream. I also halved the recipe. I’m hoping the rest heats up nicely tomorrow for breakfast.

Best oatmeal I’ve ever had! Added blueberries and cinnamon with a drizzle of maple syrup on top and sliced almonds for garnish. Used half and half instead of milk and it turned out so creamy and delicious. My toddler loved it too! Finished his bowl. 🙂 Thank you again Ina!

My family loves this oatmeal for breakfast.

Good oatmeal and hearty. Just remember that Ina forgot to write that this recipe also calls for 2 cups of water. The video states this but the written part doesn’t.
