Ingredients
- Two 3-ounce packages strawberry gelatin dessert mix
- One .25-ounce package unflavored gelatin
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 slice bread
- 1 box chocolate wafer cookies, for serving
Instructions
- Put 3 cups water in a pan, bring to a boil and turn off the heat. Stir in the strawberry and unflavored gelatin until completely dissolved. Stir in the cream. Pour the hot liquid into a bowl and let stand until slightly thickened, 15 to 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, using a tall drinking glass wide enough to hold all the straws, cut out a circle from the slice of bread to fit in the bottom of the glass. Bundle the straws together with a rubber band and stand them up in the glass, pressing the bottom ends into the circle of bread.
- Using a spouted measuring cup, pour the gelatin mixture into the tops of the straws. Refrigerate until chilled and set up completely, 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- Put the chocolate wafers in a resealable plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin. Arrange the crushed cookie on a plate or in a cleaned flower pot.
- Use the back of a flat wooden spoon to push the gelatin out of the straws. Toss the jelly worms into the crushed cookies, leaving some to stick out.

HORRIBLE…..I am pretty good in the kitchen but this recipe was a disaster..not only was it a pain filling the straws but most leaked out onto the bread…we managed to get about 10 worms and I did 2 sets of 20 straws….far too much waste and honestly the flavor was just blah…..
NOTHING GREAT…for the time, money and effort….this recipe is not worth it! It’s easy to make the ‘dirt and one can buy “worms”….but even doing that the dessert is cute but unless you add it to something it’s like eating sand and rubber….but this recipe is a bust because the work and mess do not equal the result….EPIC FAIL….

Such a hit!
fun recipe! i’d recommend letting the jell-o set in the fridge overnight.
These were so much fun!
Disaster! Kids were disappointed..like others, our gelatin ran thru and ended up with jello bread.
We thought our jelly worm project had failed when the jello did not seem to remain in the straws seeping out into the glass even with three pieces of bread, but we allowed jello to cool overnight in refrig., and to our surprise we had plenty of ugly looking tasty worms this morning!!
My grandchildren love the gummy bears, worms, dinosaurs and whatever other critters are out there. I tried this with them and the worms were spectacular — they all loved them. Jeff, you were cool and handsome in your costume. We also thought Sunny was the perfect diva (gorgeous), Katie a delightful and charming Red Riding Hood, Marcella a beautiful and lovely celebrant for Mexico’s Day of the Dead, and Geoffrey a really terrific Guy Fieri.
What a mess!!!! Tried twice. Unsuccessful mess.
