Ingredients

  1. 4 tablespoons fig jam
  2. 8 slices thick-cut brioche bread
  3. 4 tablespoons toasted sliced almonds
  4. 8 slices cooked bacon
  5. 4 slices Gruyère
  6. 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese
  7. 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  8. Kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat a griddle or a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Spread the fig jam on four slices of bread. Top with the almonds, followed by 2 slices of bacon per sandwich, and a slice of each of the cheeses. Spread the butter on the outsides of the sandwiches, then sprinkle with salt.
  2. Griddle the sandwiches on the first side, 5 minutes, then flip, cover with a heatproof metal bowl and cook until golden and the cheese is melted and warmed through, about 5 minutes more.

To those who asked about onions…there are no onions in the recipe or in the show demonstration. He used fig jam, bacon, and almonds. But I think onions would be tasty, too!

This isn’t a review, but a question…onions? How are they cooked? It looks like (from the picture that they’re layered with the other ingredients…possibly caramelized, or simply sautéed? There’s no mention of them…(I should note that I didn’t see this show)…Thank you
