Ingredients

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1 cup water
  3. 3 cups freshly squeezed orange juice (6 to 8 oranges)
  4. 1 cup Campari liqueur
  5. 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 large lemon)

Instructions

  1. First make the sugar syrup: Combine the sugar and water in small saucepan and boil over high heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Pour the sugar syrup into a 10 x 13 x 2-inch ceramic dish and stir in the orange juice, Campari, and lemon juice. Carefully place the dish on a level surface in the freezer. Freeze for one hour, rake the granita with a large dinner fork, and return it to the freezer. Rake the granite every 30 minutes, until it’s firm and granular. This should take a several hours. Serve frozen in pretty bowls or stemmed martini glasses.

Love this recipe! I keep a batch in my freezer almost all of the time and love to top it with a splash of Prosecco or Cava.

Makes a great starter for a cocktail too! We used the leftovers to make margaritas. Put a couple scoops of the granita in a shaker, add tequila, a little lime juice, and ice, shake and pour over a glass of ice. As Ina would say… “How easy was that!” Works with vodka too!
