Level: Easy
Total: 10 min
Active: 10 min
Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cup milk
  2. 1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
  3. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  4. 1 large egg
  5. Kosher salt
  6. 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter, at room temperature
  7. 1 slice white bread
  8. 1 tablespoon semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, egg and a pinch of salt in a large mug until combined.
  2. Evenly spread the butter on one side of the bread. Cut the bread into bite-size pieces and add them to the mug, pressing down lightly so all the bread pieces are submerged. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips, nestling them between the bread pieces.
  3. Microwave the bread mixture on high power for 2 minutes, pausing every 30 seconds. Let the French toast cool in the mug about 1 minute before serving.

I used an English muffin instead of bread and add lots of of chocolate chips it cooked fine but in sum parts you could taste the milk and I wish I would’ve read the reviews before I made it

Not what I expected. It was pretty mushy and gross. The only good part was the chocolate chips.

I didn’t think it was bad. had to cook for 4 min though, but I made 2 at the same time. 9 yr old wasn’t a fan.
it has all the flavors of French toast, but it’s too far from it to be called into the same category.
if they made these in the Army while I was in, I would have thought it was like lobster.

It was okay. Nothing special and needed an extra minute in the microwave. Variable cooking times by power would be great info to have upfront… Not worth the approximate 360 calories.

It’s even better with cinnamon raisin bread

Awesomeness 2nd recipe I borrowed from Jeff Mauro

I did the two minutes and the egg cooked at the bottom mine, I’m not sure if I didn’t whisk well or the bread didn’t suck it all up but all in all, I most likely won’t be making this again

I wish I would have read these comments before making this. I only did the 2 minutes and I also have a tummy ache. 3 minutes is better. Either way it just came out a soupy mess, maybe it would have been better with the comment of toasting the bread.

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon is plenty. toast the bread a little first. make sure the bread soaks up the liquid. good, quick breakfast. kids can even make it themselves.
