Simply Lasagna

  4.5 – 93 reviews

This very old recipe has been passed down through the generations in my family. Almost typically, it is created around Christmas. I believe I am the only member of the family that still has a sense of how to survive. Be prepared to spend the better part of a day making it because it takes a lot of time.

Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Additional Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 45 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 1 9×13-inch lasagna

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 (24 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 1 (15 ounce) container POLLY-O Natural Part Skim Ricotta Cheese
  5. 2 ½ cups KRAFT Shredded Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese, divided
  6. ½ cup KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese, divided
  7. ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  8. 1 large egg, beaten
  9. 12 lasagna noodles, uncooked
  10. cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cook and stir ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Turn off the heat; drain and discard grease.
  3. Stir spaghetti sauce into the skillet. Pour water into the empty sauce jar; cover, shake well, then pour liquid into the skillet. Stir until beef and sauce are well combined.
  4. Mix ricotta cheese, 1 1/4 cups mozzarella, 1/4 cup Parmesan, parsley, and egg together in a bowl until well blended.
  5. Spread 1 cup meat sauce over the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Top with 3 lasagna noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, and 1 cup meat sauce. Repeat layers twice more with noodles, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce. Top with remaining noodles and meat sauce, then sprinkle remaining mozzarella and Parmesan over top.
  6. Spray a sheet of aluminum foil with cooking spray. Place the sheet, sprayed-side down, over the baking dish and seal tightly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to bake until heated through, about 15 more minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

Kids made it, and loved it!

This lasagna is great! The only complaint I would have was it’s a little dry but I’m used to my mother’s juicy lasagna.

Added another jar of sauce and subtracted the water. It was the perfect texture with crispy edges. Used ground Italian sausage instead of ground beef for flavor. Also grated fresh Parmesan and mozzarella and topped with chopped basil. Simple and delicious!

Only used 9 lasagna noodles. Added mushroom, onion and garlic to ground beef mixture.

I add garlic and onion to the hamburger meat, and some bay leaves to the sauce before building the lasagna. A household favorite though!

This turned out great! As others have mentioned, I did cook the noodles al dente before baking and they were perfect!

it is a very simple recipe for lasagna but it’s very good for what it is. The only thing I would add would be some garlic and maybe mushrooms. I realized after I made it that I hadn’t even put Garlic in it but was surprised that the flavor was still so good.

I didn’t have a few of the ingredients and I SHOULD have added more salt and pepper because of that but it was STILL sooo good. No photo… we ate it too quick Haha

made this tonight. my only differences were I used Italian sausage and a little more cheese then it called for. And I used prego traditional spaghetti sauce. came out really good. for my first time ever Making lasagna myself.

Put it in for 35 minutes, then take the foil off and bake for another 10-15. Also more cheese. But great.

I added more sauce and mozzarella cheese. Baked it for an hour with foil then uncovered for 15 minutes of baking. Came out great, noodles were perfectly done ?? Made a mess in my oven though ?? Oh well, lol.

This turned out awesome! It will be my go to lasagna recipe from now on. I made it exactly as written with the exception of boiling my noodles three minutes as other reviewers suggest. My wife said this was my best meal I’ve ever cooked! Thank you for sharing

Actually, for the simplicity of the recipe, this was pretty darned good! I never leave well enough alone, so I added garlic, basil and oregano to the cheese mixture, about a half teaspoon of the herbs, 1 teaspoon of garlic. I’d think of this as 8 “right size” servings, not 12. Yes, I will be making this again!

I was short a half cup of cheese and it still came out amazing! I will be keeping this recipe as it is so easy to throw together. Excellent!

Made it for my family everyone enjoyed it, it was so delicious

This is the best. I think the water added to the sauce made it go together better! Didn’t hurt the flavor at all. Recipe made a huge amount of lasagna so I divided up the cooked lasagna and put some in casseroles for later meals. Love a meal in in the freezer!

Good recipe, I just suggest making more meat sauce then the recipe calls for. I send up running or and have to make more. Other than that, everything else turns sour great
