Yield: | 4 patties |
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons sea salt
- 1 tablespoon coarsely ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- ½ teaspoon ground paprika
- ½ teaspoon dill weed
- ½ large white onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¾ cup finely crushed unsalted saltine crackers
Instructions
- Place ground beef into a large bowl and break into smaller pieces. Cover with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, mustard, paprika, and dill weed; knead thoroughly. Knead in onion, egg, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix in crackers until thoroughly incorporated.
- Shape beef mixture into 5-ounce, 1/2-inch thick patties.
- Preheat a grill pan over medium heat. Grill patties until an instant-read thermometer into the center reads 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), 5 to 7 minutes per side.
- Cook’s Note:
- I have used a George Foreman(R) grill on this when I’ve been jammed up. Be careful! The patties cook faster due to being grilled on both sides – let them go for about 5 to 6 minutes then check the internal temperature.

I made this recipe and holy wow the sea salt was about all we could taste. I kind of thought that 2 Tablespoons sounded like a lot but I followed the recipe. They were so bad we threw them out.
Cut the salt and pepper to 1/2 tsp Remove dill and mustard. 1 tsp Garlic Powder. The rest is okay if tweaked. 4 minutes each side, seared, for medium rare.
It was EXTREMELY SALTY!!!
The recipe turned out fine for me. I had never used ground beef to make chopped steak. I’m really not a chopped steak fan. However, I needed to do something different for lunch, and the ground beef was available. Apparently, I used the corrected version of the recipe. I did not see the negative comments until I had prepared the mixture. (I would, probably, have questioned “tablespoon” measurements if I had seen them.) I waited to hear the verdict from my husband and son. They both said the meal was good. So, this will be a keeper, and I’ll use it again when I need variety.
That Chopped Steak don’t look chopped to me
loved it!
I will make it again
I’m sorry I made a mistake with the salt and pepper. I also apologize for you wasting a meal on this. Please don’t use this recipe as I have messed up the seasoning of it. In the meantime, I am going to figure out from my notes what SHOULD be on here and also see about getting this recipe changed. Thanks for your understanding.
Chopped Steak Haiku: “We couldn’t eat this. CRAZY too much salt, pepper. And I halved them too.” Two tablespoons of salt and one tablespoon of pepper – possibly intended to be teaspoons? I followed the recipe exactly as written, except I halved the salt and pepper and it was still inedible. What a shame. Also found the rosemary/dill combo a little off-putting too.
