Arabic Rice

I know exactly what’s in that delicious sausage. Add to almost anything you would add meat to give it a little extra flavor or enjoy it on its own.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
  2. 3 tablespoons garlic powder
  3. 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  4. 1 tablespoon ground allspice
  5. 4 cups water
  6. 2 cups long-grain rice
  7. 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
  8. ¼ cup pine nuts
  9. 1 squeeze lemon juice, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Break ground beef into small pieces and add to the skillet. Season beef with garlic powder, ground cinnamon, and allspice; cook and stir until beef is completely browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes.
  2. Stir water, rice, and beef bouillon with the beef; bring to a simmer and cook until the rice is soft and fluffy, about 20 minutes.
  3. Heat a small skillet over high heat; toast pine nuts in the skillet, swirling to keep pine nuts moving, until browned, 2 to 4 minutes. Sprinkle toasted pine nuts and lemon juice over the beef and rice mixture.
  4. Use brown rice for a healthier option.
  5. Red wine vinegar can be used in place of lemon juice.

Not bad. Nothing to write home about. I followed the recipe very closely.

I made it with lemon tilapia and it turned out great! My 9 year old son LOVES cinnamon so we were looking for something new to try and this caught his eye. He gives it his stamp of approval too.

It was decent, but it was way too much spice packed into it. Every bite was strange and it was just slapping me in the face. I think it could’ve been saltier with some more salt and pepper, and maybe half of each dose of spices. Also I would add 3x more beef bouillon as well. Not too big a fan of this,

I had to add a little more beef bouillon to ours to get the flavors we were looking for, but enjoyed the flavor of cinnamon in this dish – I think I’d make some naan or something like that to serve it with next time. The lemon really helped brighten the dish up!
