Active: 5 min
Yield: 12 eggs

Ingredients

  1. 12 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Set the trivet in the bottom of a 6-quart Instant Pot® multi-cooker. Gently place the eggs on top of the trivet. Pour 1 cup water into the pot. Follow the manufacturer’s guide for locking the lid and preparing to cook. Set to pressure cook on low 4 minutes. After the pressure cycle is complete, follow the manufacturer’s guide for quick release and wait until the quick release cycle is complete. Be careful of any remaining steam and unlock and remove the lid. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the eggs to a large ice bath and let cool for about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove the eggs from the ice bath and peel or refrigerate until ready to use.

This is the ONLY way I hard boil eggs after trying countless techniques. The rating that mentioned not crowding the eggs is absolutely correct. I use a rack which raises the eggs and keeps them separated. After years of trying EVERY technique under the sun, I will never hard boil eggs another way. BTW, the length of time is a personal preference. I’m a 4 minute.

Actually I needed to set it for 6 minutes. Remember not to crowd the eggs and not peel them unless you are ready to use them.

5-5-5: 4 minutes is not enough, 12 eggs is crowding leading to split shells and uneven cooking. Nine should be the maximum amount of eggs; all separated from each other in a pressure pot egg holder. 5 minutes high pressure followed by 5 minutes pressurized wait time, then quick pressure release. 5 minute ice bath. I rarely see grey covered yolks. Most Instant-Pots have an egg setting. Leave them in the shell if you will be keeping them in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Or 2 minutes on high pressure with natural release. The trick is not to crowd the eggs, they should be spaced out without touching.

Perfect and delicious every time! And so easy.

Four minutes on low were definitely not enough in my IP Ultra! Interior of egg (yolk & white) were not even close to cooked!

I have an electric egg boiler and that is way better than this recipe. Eggs were inconsistent and hard to peel. Would not recommend.

I’ll never hard boil eggs in a pan again. This worked out perfectly.

This is the recipe and method I have used for hard boiled eggs since getting my Instant Pot one year ago. They always come out great!
