Ingredients
- 1 pound asparagus
- 2 tablespoons dark sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- Salt and black pepper
Instructions
- In a shallow pan, soak skewers in cold water for 1 hour, then drain and set aside.
- Preheat grill to high. Snap off the woody bases of the asparagus and discard. Skewer 4 or 5 asparagus spears together, using the toothpicks or 2 bamboo skewers, forming a raft shape.
- In a small bowl, combine the sesame oil, soy sauce, and garlic and stir with a fork to mix. Brush this mixture on the asparagus rafts on both sides. Season the asparagus with a little salt and lots of pepper.
- When ready to cook, place the asparagus rafts on the hot grate and grill until nicely browned on both sides, 2 to 4 minutes. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds as they grill. You can serve the asparagus as rafts or unskewered.

I did this on a very hot day on the grill. They were amazing. Still crisp tender. Good hot, but, for me, even better chilled as a snack. I may try adding these to a charcuterie board in the future sliced into 1 1/2 inch lengths or maybe full length.

Simple, yummy recipe.
A great and e-z recipe that all family / guests look forward to. Have found that a higher initial near sear temp for a minute or so each side, followed by a couple of minutes each side around 350 renders the spears perfectly. Hat tip to Raichlen for this go-to recipe.
I love roasted asparagus so I assumed that this dish would fall short for me, but it didn’t. This was so delicious with the perfect balance of salt + the right amount of crunch.
Delicious! My mouth was watering after I smelled the marinade. The sesame oil adds wonderful flavor. This is the best grilled asparagas recipe I’ve tried – definitely will make again!
This was definitely easy to make and the sauce was so simple, yet so flavorful! I would use it as a chicken marinade or to grill other vegetables. I made this for my parents and they said it was the best asparagus they had ever eaten! I’m making this again in a few days for my boyfriend and friends and i have no doubt they will also love it!
