Ingredients
- 1 bunch radishes (with greens)
- 5 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 3 teaspoons grated peeled ginger
- Freshly ground pepper
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless sirloin steak (about 1 1/2 inches thick)
- Vegetable oil, for the pan
- 2 tablespoons unseasoned rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
- 2 small sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch-thick rounds
- 1 bunch scallions, white and green parts separated, cut into
- 1 1/2 -inch pieces
- Toasted sesame oil, for drizzling
- Roughly chop the radish greens. Cut the radishes into eighths.
Instructions
- Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Mix 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon ginger and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a bowl, then spread over the steak. Lightly oil the grill pan, then cook the steak about 5 minutes per side for medium rare. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest 5 minutes, then thinly slice.
- Meanwhile, bring the remaining 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce and 2 teaspoons ginger, the vinegar, brown sugar and 2 1/2 cups water to a simmer in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add the sweet potatoes, radish wedges and scallion whites and cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until just tender, about 10 minutes.
- Add the radish and scallion greens and cook until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Divide the vegetables, broth and steak among shallow bowls. Drizzle with sesame oil.

Loved this!! My husband doesn’t like sweet potatoes so I used white potatoes not a good idea. Next time I will use carrots.
It’s delicious! I have a tendency to modify recipes when I cook, but not this one. It’s perfect as is!
If you like pho, but have no idea how to make pho, then you will like this! I made udon noodles and ate it like a soup. It’s also good with hoison sauce and sirracha. I didn’t like the beet greens that much, but everything else was great!
The ingredients are great BUT the meat looks much too bloody for me. I like my meat cooked. Lost the appeal for me when I saw the picture.
Very tasty! The biggest error is in the name! It needs to be called by a different name. Possibly Teriyaki Steak soup, but that still doesn’t capture it. Asian Beef Vegetable Soup?
I followed the suggestions to add sriracha, and loved it. I also waited to add the radishes with the greens. When I make this again, I will add 4 cups of water instead of 2.5, since the broth was delicious, but there was not enough.
I could not find oyster sauce, so I substituted it with 1 TB of clam juice and 1 TB of mirin. Please feel free to comment if you have a suggestion for a better substitute.

I like to BBQ the steak to give it a little more flavor but delicious!
Love it!! It was so flavorful and filling. My daughter loved it and so did my husband (which I added sriracha since he loves heat A few changes thanks to other reviews: used beef broth, added garlic to marinade, added carrots and mushrooms, served over udon noodles. Don’t skip the sweet potato, it was better than I expected. The radishes were overcooked so next time I will add them later or just add bok choy next time. Also going to broil steak instead of grill it due to mess and flare ups.
