Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for brushing
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- Freshly ground pepper
- 4 5-to-6-ounce wild salmon fillets, skin removed
Instructions
- Combine 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, the soy sauce, lemon juice, onion, brown sugar, garlic, sesame oil, and pepper to taste in a bowl or large resealable plastic bag. Add the salmon and turn to coat; refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably most of the day.
- Preheat the broiler and line a broiler pan with foil. Place the salmon on the foil (reserve the marinade) and brush with vegetable oil. Broil for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the salmon is opaque. Meanwhile, strain the marinade and simmer in a saucepan over medium-low heat until slightly reduced. Serve the salmon with the sauce on the side.

Reviews
I used garlic powder, onion powder, and limes due to ease and ingredients at hand (instead of fresh onions and garlic, and instead of lemons) and it came out great. Kids loved it.
So delicious and easy. Very good. Will definitely use again.

Awesome every time I make it!!
Made this for supper last night. My daughter HATES fish, but has to eat more of it. The ONLY thing I did different was grated up maybe 2 tbsp of fresh ginger root. That was the ONLY thing I added to it (but my kids are older, I can’t imagine too many little kids would like the taste of ginger, hahaha). Did everything else exactly as written, but didn’t have any toasted sesame oil. I am going to buy it! I can totally see the difference it would make to the flavor profile. I left to marinade in fridge for about 6 hours. Next time, I will marinade overnight as recommended. Absolutely DELICIOUS! My husband refuses to eat Salmon (he was spoiled and grew up on the Coast. He despises the Salmon here in Alberta) and even he said he will eat it the next time I make it!
Five stars ALL the way!!!!
Five stars ALL the way!!!!
This recipe rocks! I do use only one lemon and add ginger but pretty much follow the recipe. If you marinate it, the lemon juice helps neutralize that fishy flavor sometimes present in salmon. My six year old son doesn’t usually like salmon but he’ll eat this dish. It goes well with steamed broccoli. I make a double recipe of sauce so he can dunk his broccoli in it.
My family thought this recipe was okay. My kid didn’t actually like this as much as but I think it’s more because they don’t particularly care for salmon. I liked the recipe and taste. I did make a couple of modifications-added additional brown sugar to create a thicker marinate; also brushed salmon with butter instead of vegetable oil since I like the butter flavor better. All in all a solid dish.
I did this one and got rave reviews from my parents! Although Next time I would make extra marinade set aside for making sauce, although they said the sauce is not necessary, since the salmon itself stands well on its own! Put this recipe in your next cookbook, Melissa! It Rocks! (I have your current one already!
Great recipe! The only salmon recipe that I’ve been able to get my 9 and 6 year-old to eat! They actually said “This is awesome!” I couldn’t believe it. So easy to make and a big hit with the whole family!!!!
The marinade is one of the absolute best I’ve ever had! I’ve used it two times & will be using again & again!
