Ingredients

  1. 1 packet teriyaki marinade (recommended: McCormick Grill Mates)
  2. 1 tablespoon paprika
  3. 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  4. 3 1/2 pounds pork shoulder
  5. 1/2 cup chicken broth
  6. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  7. 1/4 cup soy sauce
  8. 1 cup chili sauce
  9. One 6-ounce can pineapple juice
  10. 1 medium onion, chopped
  11. 2 carrots, chopped
  12. 8 hamburger rolls
  13. 2 tablespoon canola oil
  14. 1 tablespoon ginger, chopped
  15. 2 teaspoons garlic, chopped

Instructions

  1. In small bowl, combine teriyaki mix, paprika and pepper.
  2. Coat the pork the with rub mixture, patting until all rub is used. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl whisk together the chicken broth, brown sugar, soy sauce, chili sauce and pineapple juice. Set aside.
  4. Put the chopped onions and carrots in a 5-quart slow cooker. Place the pork on top of the carrots and onions and pour half of the pineapple juice mixture over pork. Reserve remainder for Hawaiian sauce. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours. The meat should fall apart easily. Remove the roast from the slow cooker to a cutting board. Using 2 forks carefully pull the meat into shreds.
  5. Hawaiian Sauce:
  6. In a medium pot heat the oil over medium heat. Add garlic and ginger and saute until soft, about 2 minutes. Add the remaining pineapple juice mixture, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  7. Serve the pork on rolls drizzled with the Hawaiian sauce or on the side for dipping.

Made these pork sandwiches many times for my children. They ask for me to make them all the time. Never can find the package of teriyaki mix that the recipe calls for so I modify it & put in teriyaki sauce. Always turns out awesome!!

Can cook on high for half the time. Next time, will exclude the chilli, even after I halved the measurements,  as it was too spicy for my kids.

I love this recipe! I substituted the pork for chicken and it turned out great! Only thing I would change just based off of preference is less ginger in the sauce. Other than that, wonderful!

Both picky kids go back for seconds, which is a huge win in my house. I’ve made this to recipe several times, but use Brown Sugar Bourbon seasoning. We have it as sliders on hawaiian rolls, and add cheese to make it kid friendly. One of my faves.

I found the McCormick’s seasoning packet at Ralph’s/Kroger’s if that helps anyone.

It’s our favorite recipe! Still working on the right amount of pineapple juice but otherwise delicious!!

This recipe is delicious. My boys ate it up! I substituted the chili sauce for a Thai Sweet Chili Sauce. Other then that I wouldn’t change a thing!

Loved it! I too had to use Korean BBQ seasoning in lieu of Teriyaki  (it wasn’t in the store) and it was great. I even liked the carrots, they added a new element to pulled pork I’d not had before. In my experience with other recipes the best way to serve is to butter the buns and toast them in a pan before filling with the yummy meat. My family went crazy over this. I’m going to go for leftovers/round 2 as pulled pork tacos with coleslaw.
