Prep: 10 min
Cook: 1 hr 15 min
Yield: 8 servings plus leftovers

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 wet cured, smoked ham, about 5 to 7 1/2 pounds
  2. 1 cup light brown sugar
  3. 2 tablespoons coarse grain mustard
  4. 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  5. Prepared mustard
  6. Prepared horseradish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place ham on a rack over a roasting pan and roast for 10 minutes per pound. When there is approximately 1/2 hour more to cook remove ham from oven and cut off the skin (if it has not already been removed by the butcher) exposing the fat and score the fat in a diamond pattern. In a small saucepan mix together the brown sugar, mustard and allspice and heat until the sugar melts. Spread the sugar mixture over the ham. Place ham back in the oven and roast for the final 30 minutes. Allow to rest for about 10 minutes before carving. Serve with mustard and horseradish.

I had a ham that was roughly twice the size in the recipe, so I doubled the glaze recipe and, God forgive me, I added a couple of extra dashes of just plain ground cloves into the glaze recipe. I love cloves so much. Anyway, it was the best ham I’ve ever eaten! My family loved it and just ate it up! I’ll definitely make this again! really tasty!

This is one of my favorite glazes – easy to do – and take one more step out of this – just put the mustard directly on your meat and pack brown sugar into/onto the mustard…leaving out the spice or sprinkle on… It’s the best! 🙂
