Tangy Meatloaf Burgers

Ingredients

  1. 1 small onion (1/2 sliced into rings, 1/2 diced)
  2. 1 pound meatloaf mix (ground pork, beef and veal) or ground turkey
  3. 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  4. 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  5. 1 large egg
  6. 1 teaspoon sweet or smoked paprika
  7. 1/3 cup ketchup
  8. 1/3 cup duck sauce
  9. Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  10. 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  11. 4 potato buns or other rolls, split
  12. Lettuce, sliced tomato and pickle slices, for topping
  13. Sweet potato chips, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill to medium high. Soak the onion rings in a bowl of cold water. Meanwhile, combine the meatloaf mix with the diced onion, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, paprika, 1 tablespoon each ketchup and duck sauce, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Gently form into four 1-inch-thick patties; make an indentation in the center of each.
  2. Brush the patties with the olive oil and grill until marked on the bottom, about 6 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the remaining ketchup and duck sauce in a small bowl for brushing; set aside a few tablespoons. Turn the patties, brush with the ketchup mixture and continue grilling until cooked through, about 5 more minutes. Toast the buns, if desired.
  3. Spread the buns with the reserved ketchup mixture. Drain the onion rings. Serve the patties on the buns; top with the onion, lettuce, tomato and pickles. Serve with sweet potato chips, if desired.

These are the best burgers ever! I didn’t have the duck sauce so they weren’t “tangy” but they were juicy and tasted great! A big thumbs up from the kids too.

Definitely will do this again. Had to use plum sauce in place of the duck sauce due to all the stores in my area do not carry duck sauce including the Asian market.

I never, never make plain burgers. I grind my own meat and incorporate onions, garlic and breadcrumbs, plus egg and spices. Nothing more boring than trying to give blah meat flavor with toppings. This is another excellent taste addition.

This recipe was pretty good and the burgers came out well. Would have been 5 stars if it was more clear about what type of duck sauce to use since they don’t all mix with ketchup well. It is also nice that the nutritional information is included. Why don’t all of the recipes here have it posted?

I never usually stray from a plain old burger but i saw this recipe and had to try it and i am so glad i did. The duck sauce was amazing it almost reminded me of a sweet n sour sauce when combined with the ketchup. It was delish. My only problem with these burgers is mine didnt hold up on the grill most of them crumbled while cooking. Not sure why next time i will add a little more bread crumbs. Either way these were delish and i will def make again
