Ingredients

  1. 1 cup milk
  2. 1/2 cup butter
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 2 cups sugar
  5. 2 teaspoons vanilla
  6. 2 cups flour
  7. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  8. 1 pint strawberries, stems removed and cut into small pieces
  9. 2 tablespoons sugar
  10. 1 tablespoon orange liqueur
  11. Whipped cream, as an accompaniment

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a saucepan, bring the milk and butter to a boil.
  3. Meanwhile, with a whip attachment beat the eggs 5 to 7 minutes until light and very fluffy. Add the sugar and vanilla and mix in well, then, gradually add the flour.
  4. Drizzle in the hot milk, then add baking powder. Pour it into an ungreased tube pan with straight walls (not a Bundt pan). Bake for 1 hour.
  5. Combine the strawberries, 2 tablespoons of sugar and the liqueur in a bowl and set a side.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan, and then use a blunt knife to go around the edge of the pan to loosen it. Turn it out and serve with strawberries and whipped cream.

I have been making this recipe for many years, and it is always a hit. Everyone loves it, even served without the fruit. Sometimes, I use vanilla ice cream. My husband loves to toast it and add butter. (a little unhealthy, but delicious) It is so easy and quick. However, it did stick to my pan quite a bit. What would happen if I very lightly greased the pan?

I have not tried this but the recipie looks good. Just didn’t want a bad review here because the recipie is not incomplete.

The recipe was easy but it is incomplete. When is the sugar and vanilla added? No mention of this. I made the cake but have not tasted as yet. I will let you know later.

Thank you.
