Orange-Spiced Cheesecake

Ingredients

  1. 1 box (17 ounces) frozen cheesecake (recommended: Sara Lee – not NY style)
  2. 1/3 cup orange marmalade
  3. 2 tablespoons orange liqueur (recommended: Cointreau)
  4. 1 tablespoon orange juice concentrate
  5. 1/4 teaspoon five-spice blend
  6. 1 orange, sliced

Instructions

  1. Cut the cheesecake into quarters and thaw according to package instructions. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat combine the marmalade, orange liqueur, orange juice concentrate, and orange slices. Simmer until thick and syrupy, about 10 minutes.
  2. To serve, spoon warm orange spice mixture over the top of cheesecake slices.

I’m not a big fan of orange flavoring but this was okay. I kept out the 5 spice blend and it wasn’t that bad. Don’t think I’ll ever do it again.

Although there was lots of orange stuff on this cake, I didn’t think the message that came across to my mouth was ORANGE. It was more like concentrated sugar. I do love marmalade and I usually use Grand Marnier if I’m going to use an orange liqueur.

I think it’s worth the 4 stars with some changes (main attraction is that this is easy & quick!). I used 1-1/2 TB. Grand Marnier instead as it’s not as “bitey”, 2-1/2 TB. o.j. concentrate plus 1/8 tsp. ground ginger as ginger seems to be more in keeping with the orange ~ Chinese 5-spice mixes vary too much with the ingredients.

Possibly the worst slice of cheesecake I’ve ever eaten. The topping with the marmalade and the 5 spice powder was a hideous brwon color and had an overpoweringly bitter taste that styaes in your mouth for hours. BLECH.
