Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, plus more for dish
- 10 ounces jumbo marshmallows
- 3/4 cup creamy, common brand peanut butter (recommended: Jif or Skippy)
- 6 cups crispy rice cereal (recommended: Rice Krispies)
- 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Melt the butter over low heat in a large pot. Stir in the marshmallows and cook until fully melted and no marshmallow white remains. Stir in the peanut butter until combined. Stir in the cereal until distributed evenly through the marshmallow mixture. Pour out onto a lightly greased rectangular baking dish (9 by 13 inches). Smooth out the top of the treats by moistening your hands with a little water and using the palms of your hand to press down gently. Don’t press down too hard or else your treats will be too dense. Set aside to cool.
- Once the treats have cooled, melt the chocolate over low heat. Cut the treats into even squares and quickly just shallowly dip the top side of the treats into the chocolate. Turn chocolate side up and set in a baking dish or on a rack until set.

These crispy rice treats are a wonderful trip down memory lane for me….memories loving these as a kid and memories making these for my children when they were young.
I follow this recipe, however, I add about 3/4 of a cup of Nutella to the melted chocolate and then I spread the melted chocolate/nutella mixture over the entire pan without cutting them and then refrigerate until firm.
Can’t wait for my granddaughter to try them!!

I do this recipe minus the chocolate with an extra something & everyone loves it. I even sell them now!
All I have to say is OHHHHHH MYYYYYYYY! I was craving some peanut butter and these really hit the spot. Saved me from eating the PB out of the jar! I put the chocolate on half and left the rest plain and both were scrumptious. The plain one really hit the spot for my PB craving. Yum, yum, yummy!!
This a good recipe! Although we wouldn’t know because we didn’t follow it, it turned out great! Heres our recipe for the smaller portion eater:
6.7 ounces of marshmallows
2.5 tablespoons of butter
4 cups of crushed active lifestyle(cereal)
3 drops of red food coloring(for festivity)

It was very close and we were happy to use this recipe as a guidline. we just love to experiment! But it was actually very good and great for valentines day!
To clean pans try:
soak all pans and utensils in a huge bin of hot water. After 5 minutes, takes back to sink and rinse off. IT COMES RIGHT OFF! Just a suggestion!

I liked this recipe more then any other Rice Krispies I’ve tried. I’m not fond of rice krispie treats the way they are usually made. This recipe though was tasty and easy. It was a big hit with my family.
This recipe was excellently easy to make, but I did not add the peanut butter due to allergies and we didn’t have choc chips. I must add that in some cases it will need more butter in order to saturate the marshmallows efficiently. Great old time food none the less.
Loved the addition of peanut butter. I didnt melt the chips on top, but added it with the cereal so there are chunks of it throughout.
The treats themselves are easy to make and taste great. The chocolate dipping always seems to be a production- easier to jst drizzle it across the tops
Everyone loves this treat, i can’t lose this recipe.
Perfect for children and adults.
