Cinnamon-Anise Poached Pears

Instructions

  1. Peel, halve and core 2 pears. Put in a shallow dish with 1 cup water, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 cinnamon stick and 1 star anise pod. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave until the pears are soft, 8 minutes. Meanwhile, beat 1/2 cup heavy cream with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon until soft peaks form. Serve the pears with the syrup and cinnamon cream.

I also added 3 green cardamom pods ( because I had them from an Asian recipes and someone recommended them) and. Split vanilla bean. Let it sit in the fridge overnight after poaching to intensify the flavor. Oh yum! Leftovers were great for making puff pastry popovers

I absoutley love this dessert.It was so easy to make I substituted Vanilla extract for Anise ( I read online I couldI substituted carnation milk and a little vanilla extract in place of the heavy cream . It was light ,tasty dessert.

Anise is not everone’s favorite with Pears.May I suggest a flavour of Cloves with just 2 with the Cinnamon stick{s}.If fragile,strain through a cheese cloth found in the Kitchen Area of a Kitchen Supplies for making certain all Spices stay out at End but Flavour prevails.This could be a haute cuisine dessert with a few changes.
