Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 tablespoons amaretto liqueur
  2. 1 pint espresso gelato
  3. 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted
  4. 2 amaretti cookies (I love the cute wrapped Lazzaroni kind)
  5. 1 pint heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. With a whisk or hand-held mixer, whip the cream in a bowl until very thick but still liquid. Add the amaretto and whip until soft peaks form.
  2. Put 2 scoops of gelato into a serving dish. Sprinkle a tablespoon of the almonds over the gelato and top with a dollop of the flavored whipped cream. Rub 1/2 an amaretti cookie along a fine grater over the whipped cream to garnish. Repeat with remaining ingredients and serve immediately.

Call it whatever you want..it’s one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted! Please don’t rate if you have not made the recipe. edmaull_9406814 misleading rating.

I agree with the previous reviewer. This is not an Affogato. It sounds good and I will try the recipe…but, it’s not an Affogato. An Affogato is made with vanilla icecream, a shot of espresso and a dollop of cream. Yum.

Affogato is an Italian, coffee-based dessert consisting of vanilla gelato (or good quality vanilla ice cream) topped with a shot of espresso. Affogato means “drowned” in Italian. I prefer authentic recipes and this just isn’t one.
