Ingredients
- 2 dozen chicken wings, about 3 1/4 pounds, rinsed and patted dry
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted in a skillet over medium heat until lightly browned
- Leaves from 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 cup grapefruit juice
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 fresh, hot red chile, halved
- 5 garlic cloves, halved
- 2-inch piece fresh ginger, smashed with the side of a large knife
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Season the chicken wings with salt and pepper and drizzle a little olive oil on them to prevent sticking. Lay the wings in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes or until the skin gets crispy and the wings are cooked through.
- Meanwhile, combine the teriyaki sauce ingredients in a large saucepan. Simmer over low heat and reduce until slightly thickened. Pour the sauce into a large bowl. Dump the wings into the bowl and toss to coat them with the sauce. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with the sesame seeds and cilantro. Serve hot.

Disappointing. Not really the flavors you would expect from an Asian recipe. Thinking the fryer of some kind is needed
This sauce was excellent. Made it a couple hours before I put the wings in. Used OJ instead of grapefruit juice because it was zero in Detroit today and the Lions were playing tonight. This was awesome!!
The cake was absolutely amazing. It is moist and wonderful flavor. We loved it! Thank you nelies
These were very good. Next time I would cut back the rice wine vinegar to 1 tablespoon. It had quite a vinegar snap and I ended up adding a good amount of honey. It does make a good amount of sauce. I saved some to marinade something else.
So so good!! The sauce is excellent. A new favorite in our house.
The teriyaki sauce was amazing and the chicken wings were delicious!!!
Well, I cooked my wings for about an hour. After 30 minutes, they looked like salmonella could happen by meet eyesight. I didn’t have hoisin sauce, so I had to do a substitute of barbecue and molasses. Perhaps that’s why it never really thickened. However, overall the flavors were amazing and it was easy to follow. If I ever find hoisin sauce I will try using that.
These wings are not good. The sauce does not thicken, at all. Flavors just weren’t there. Very disappointing.
This sauce recipe is great!! I would recommend just frying these in an or fryer instead of baking. It’s a bit disappointing to have not-crispy wings after wait a while for them to bake.
Quick and easy to make at anytime of day. I loved the sauce. The sauce tasted like the one at the Chinese restaurant, I frequent. I usually order clams in almost the exact sauce. Party pleaser and family pleaser for sure. Great recipe!
