I made this apple crisp with McIntosh and gale apples, because my daughter-in-law gave me the McIntosh and I only had Gales. My sister-in-law grandson was sick so I my 4 Butterscotch Apple Crisp. 1 for my family, 1 for my daughter-in-law, 1 for my sister-in-law and 1 for her daughter, who son was sick. Because I made such a large batch I cut back on the Butterscotch chips, add a little more oatmeal and added more flour to the apples, it was great. My sister-in-law took hers to work. Then call me and asked if I give out my recipe. I gave her the info of food Network and the name of the recipe Butterscotch Apple Crisp. I made this apple crisp at lease 5 times and this was the best. Thanks for this recipe.

Followed the recipe exactly as given. Great concept but way too sweet for me. I do intend to make this again but I will use about half of the butterscotch chips.
I don’t know where they came up with only 15 minutes of prep time! It took me an hour just to get everything peeled, cored, chopped, measured, mixed, and in the baking dish. MAYBE if you buy a bag of apples that are already peeled, cored, and chopped.
The aroma from the kitchen was incredible! I was torn between this recipe and the Ina Garten recipe that uses apples, pears & cranberries. But I was intrigued by the apple-butterscotch combination of this one. So I added about half a cup of dried cranberries to this recipe. I used only half a bag of butterscotch chips (I couldn’t find caramel chips as suggested by several others). We all liked the flavor. However, next time I would leave out the chopped pecans in the topping. I don’t think it added anything to the flavor and in fact might have detracted from it.
I have always preferred apple pie to apple crisp, but I must say, this recipe makes me like both equally. I made as directed, except I used 1/2 bag of caramel chips and 1/2 bag of butterscotch chips and think I like this combo better than I would have liked the butterscotch chips alone. My crisp did require about ten minutes longer to cook as my apples were a bit too under-cooked at 45 minutes. One bonus is that the house smells heavenly. I will make this my go-to apple crisp recipe in the future. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Neeley! Delish!
What a Welcome-to-Fall dessert this is!!! In a word, “Delicious”… The addition of butterscotch morsels is sheer genius. It is seriously sweet…think I will go with a half bag of morsels next go…which can’t be soon enough.
I made this for a holiday dinner last week. Everyone loved it and it was very simple to put together. The addition of butterscotch chips is brilliant. This will be my go to apple crisp recipe from now on. I sliced the apples (a mix of Prime Red and Macintosh rather than chopping them. Didn’t overbake it so the apples still had some texture. T
I went to the store without the list of ingredients and thought I remembered it took caramel chips. I was wrong, but made it with them anyway. This recipe is absolutely delicious. However, I think i would prefer the caramel personally.
I’d never have thought of making this with butterscotch chips! I had some in the freezer, so I whipped it up, and man! The Neelys are geniuses! I used Five Spice in place of the cinnamon and allspice the second time, and liked it even better! Way to go, Neelys!
I made this twice. The first time I only used half a bag of Butterscoth and it was devored! The second time I used a whole bag and the kids said it was too sweet. The smell in my kitchen alone is an excuse to make this again.
