White Wine Fondue

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound shredded Swiss cheese*, at room temperature
  2. 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  3. 1 clove garlic, halved
  4. 1 cup chicken broth
  5. 1/2 cup dry white wine
  6. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  7. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  8. French bread, cubed, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Toss cheese and flour together. Rub a fondue pot or saucepan with the cut garlic. Add broth and wine. Heat over medium heat until hot but not bubbling. Add lemon juice. Add cheese mixture and stir until cheese melts. Season with nutmeg. Keep warm. Serve with bread cubes for dipping.
  2. *Use only natural, aged Swiss cheese, such as Emmentaler, natural Gruyere, or Raclette.

This recipe is really only good to base your fondue on. I agree that it is not supposed to taste like chicken, so I highly recommend that you only put about 1/4 cup of the chicken stock (instead of broth) in the mixture. I also would tell you to add your favorite seasonings to the mix, as the base recipe is actually very bland. It really took very little effort to greatly improve this recipe, and I suggest you do what you like to make it your own, as it does prove to be a fantastic base, but only that.

I was so bummed about how this turned out. I thought the flavor was descent, but it was seperated from the very beginning and never came together. It’s so hard to dunk bread chunks in a lump of cheese. Won’t try this one again.

Cheese fondue is supposed to taste like cheese not chicken. It was a very unpleasant surprise. I don’t recommend this recipe.

This white wine fondue was very creamy and flavorful. It was not a five for me because the recipe as it is has a little to much flavor. However, I found by using just half the wine and the rest chicken broth that the flavor is perfect. Sandra Lee is my favorite. Thank you for all the great ideas!

Like all the others have said — it tasted like chicken soup. It was disgusting. I am not sure if this recipe would work without the soup, but I have since found a better recipe for cheese fondue anyway.
