This maple syrup and milk-based hot chocolate recipe is the perfect balance of cocoa and sweetness for my palette.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup whole milk
  2. 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  3. 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  4. ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Pour milk into a microwave-safe measuring cup. Heat in the microwave until hot, about 1 minute and 30 seconds.
  2. Place maple syrup, cocoa, and vanilla into a mug. Pour in 1/3 of the hot milk and stir well. Add remaining hot milk.

I made this as directed. It’s similar to another one I made yesterday. I like the addition of vanilla although I’m not certain I could taste it. I still thought this was on the sweet side. Made this with coconut milk..and next time I’ll add half the amount of maple syrup.
