The time required to make limoncello is absolutely worthwhile. To diluted the limoncello to the required proof, use a calculator to determine the alcohol level. The more time this rests, the more relaxed it becomes.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Additional Time: 4 hrs 8 mins
Total Time: 4 hrs 13 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 4 tea bags
  2. 12 sprigs fresh mint
  3. 3 cups boiling water
  4. 1 cup white sugar
  5. 1 cup orange juice
  6. ¼ cup lemon juice
  7. 3 cups cold water, or more to taste
  8. 1 cup light rum, or more to taste

Instructions

  1. Place tea bags and mint sprigs into a large pitcher. Pour in boiling water; steep for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove tea bags and mint; before discarding, squeeze excess tea back into pitcher. Stir in sugar until dissolved; add orange juice and lemon juice. Pour in cold water and rum. Refrigerate at least 4 hours to overnight.
  2. It’s better to use a light rum (also called white or silver rum) rather than a spiced rum in this drink so that the mint and citrus flavors are not overshadowed.

I made this for a get together and now I am asked to bring it everywhere. If you like it stronger but don’t want the taste to be overwhelmingly boozy, I recommend using Cruzan Citrus Rum and using equal parts cold water and rum.
