Mater’s Adult Butterbeer

  5.0 – 7 reviews  • Rum Drinks Recipes

These may be prepared ahead of time, frozen without the glaze, then simply reheated in the sauce the day of the party after being defrosted.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 5 mins
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  1. 1 fluid ounce spiced rum (such as Sailor Jerry®)
  2. 1 fluid ounce butterscotch schnapps
  3. ½ teaspoon imitation butter flavoring
  4. 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle cream soda
  5. 1 small scoop vanilla ice cream (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Stir rum and schnapps together in a frosted 14-ounce mug.
  2. Pour butter flavoring into cream soda, then quickly pour soda into the chilled mug. Gently drop ice cream into the soda mixture.
  3. For a thicker and sweeter froth, use 1 small scoop of your favorite vanilla or butterscotch ice cream.
  4. One ounce each of schnapps and rum is for general guests. For a more potent grog, try 1 1/2 ounces schnapps and 1 1/3 ounces rum.

Made the strong version with a quality cream soda and the dollop of vanilla ice cream. Absolutely amazing.

This was really good! We did use the optional ice cream. Sailor Jerry’s isn’t my favorite rum, so personally I think you could use whatever brand you prefer so long as it’s mild and doesn’t overwhelm the buttery flavor. Thanks for sharing!

This was so yummy! I prepared this as a late night drink and it hit the spot. Sweet, a little kick and helped me go right to sleep. I’ve had a few different butter beers but this is definitely my favorite. I tried it with and without the ice cream. The ice cream really does make it even better.

AMAZING! I drizzled a little bit of caramel sauce over the top for the ~look~. Perfect drink for a Potter Marathon.

This AMAZING!!! I originally made this for our Halloween party last year and it was such a big hit that now I make it for all of our parties!!! It’s so simple and delicious! Serve it in some large glass or metal mugs for that Halloween/Harry Potter feel#

Leave lots of room in the cup when you drop the ice cream in, but so worth it. Rich, creamy, sweet, and buttery, but not oily or syrupy.

This is REALLY yummy! I made the “potent grog” from the footnotes, and I’m very pleased with the flavor. This is good without the ice cream, but I really think the ice cream makes it. It froths up a whole lot, so be ready with a straw!
