Homestyle Hot Cocoa

The classic ice cream flavor is reminiscent of this adorable refrigerator cookie. There are stripes that are white, pink, and chocolate.

  1. ½ cup white sugar
  2. ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Very good! This used special dark cocoa because that’s all I had. Next time I will drop some of the sugar. I added homemade whipped cream to it and there was too much sugar in it too lol

I used heavy cream instead of half and half and a cinnamon stick instead of cinnamon. It was really good!! Probably the best hot chocolate ever!!!

This was delicious! I just used half & half since I didn’t have milk. Super creamy & amazing flavor!

Wanted something that was delicious and warm and not too complicated after shoveling snow. This was perfect!!! I love cinnamon so I ended up putting a dash more of it in here. Soooo good!!!!

Exactly like what my Grandma used to make!!!

I used coconut milk instead of half and half and I used almond milk because dairy milk is too sweet for me, especially with added sugar and marshmallows. This is my go-to hot chocolate. My fiance loves it as well, he says it puts him to sleep!

I didn’t have half n half so I substituted coconut milk (the full fat canned variety), it was delicious!! I might have drank all 4 cups. ??

Delicious!! I made a large batch of this cocoa for a hot cocoa bar that I served at a gathering. It was a big hit! The cinnamon gave it an extra special touch (I recommend a splurge on high quality cinnamon from a spice shop) The ladies gave it a kick by adding their choice of flavorings and toppings (Irish cream, coffee or peppermint liquor, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, etc.)

It was similar to what my mom made after a day of tobogganing with my friends. Maybe a bit too sweet and a bit too chocolatey. Next time I would reduce both. Thank you for sharing.

Also added a scrape of fresh nutmeg and an extra 1/2 cup of cream. 10/10 would make again.

Amazing as is. If you want to make Mochas – this recipe and LavAzza Gran Selezione are your best friends! We have some family allergies, so there were some essential recipe changes that were ounce for ounce substitutions. Two in our house can have dairy, but not lactose. Heavy whipping cream doesn’t have lactose. So we used Rice Milk 1:1 to replace the milk, omitted the water, bloomed the chocolate in half the rice milk, which is easier to boil than milk. Then we added the rest of the rice milk and other ingredients. We used heavy cream because Rice Milk is thinner and half-and-half has lactose. Together, this was Amazing! Really delicious, although, I tend to like thing a touch less sweet. So, if I were to make this again for hot chocolate alone I would reduce the sugar by 10% (we measure by weight in grams, so this is fairly easy to do). That is just a personal preference though – I find most things too sweet, and want to keep it that way. I reduce sugar 10% in nearly all recipes, because type II Diabetes runs in my family, so I like to be conscientious of sugar. My Fiancé and our daughter love it as is. At any rate – with a 6oz k-cup of LavAzza, Gran Selezione…. oh… my… goodness… you’ll never want a coffee shop version again 🙂

I didn’t have half and half.. and we drink skim milk in this house… and it was still very rich and sweet! My daughter loved it!

Easy and delicious.

I made this recipe 3 ways, and was a hit in every way. I made it exactly as written, sugar free for my diabetic mother, and dairy free for my lactose intolerant sister, and it was absolutely delicious. Everyone loved it!! It will be my go-to recipe from now on!!!
Stacey Anderson
It turned out a little dark colored.
Jason Walker
Love it! Didn’t have half and half so I used whipping cream and it was great!
