Ingredients

  1. 1 pound prepared pizza dough
  2. 3/4 cup sugar
  3. 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  4. Vegetable oil, for deep-frying
  5. Olive oil, for deep-frying

Instructions

  1. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness. Using a floured 2-inch cookie cutter, cut out doughnut rounds. Using a floured 1-inch cookie cutter, cut out a hole in the center of each doughnut. Gather the dough scraps and reroll. Cut out more doughnuts.
  2. Whisk the sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl to blend. Set the cinnamon-sugar aside.
  3. Pour equal parts of vegetable oil and olive oil into a large frying pan to reach a depth of 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer registers 375 degrees F. Working in batches, fry the doughnuts until they puff but are still pale, about 45 seconds per side. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the doughnuts to paper towels to drain. Cool slightly. While the doughnuts are still warm, generously coat each 2 times with the cinnamon-sugar. Serve warm.
  4. Alternately, cool the fried doughnuts to room temperature. Stir 3 ounces of milk chocolate and 1/4 cup of whipping cream in a heavy small saucepan over medium-low heat until the chocolate melts. Set aside until the chocolate sauce comes to room temperature but does not set. Dip 1 side of each doughnut into the chocolate mixture. Sprinkle with finely chopped toasted almonds or crushed espresso beans and set aside until the chocolate is set.

These were okay. Someone else said they were more like carnival fried dough than real doughnuts and I heartily agree. I didn’t have enough olive oil to waste on this (and it is a waste of oil) so i used only veggie oil. Smells up the house. We ate them — good enough but probably won’t do again.

These donuts didn’t work for me. I picked up the pizza dough from the local Italian pizza place but they were too chewy….not my idea of a good donut!

I made these but gave them a diffrent twist 🙂 I toook 1/2 up of water and a 4th cup og cugar and put them in a hot pan. After the sugar dissolved I added 1/4 a teaspoon of salt. After That I added one stick of butter. I wated until all of the ingrediants were like a sauce. Then I added 1cup of flour. Then the substance turned to a dough. Then I toook 3 eggs and whisked them into the mixture. Then after all the ingrediants were combined…. I added a green apple. I cut the apple intoi LITTLE pieces and combine them with the mixture. Then I fried the mixxture and it was great! I added powdered sugar, and cinamon on top! It was DELISH! I hope you try my recipe!!

I am wondering if not all prepared pizza doughs are not created egual because my doughnuts came out very tough and chewy. They looked good and cooked quickly and it was definitely a easier way to make a raised doughnuts .But they weren’t my favorite and I probably won’t make them again.
