For special occasions, prepare this delectable urad dal dish from India. Like other dal recipes, it gets even tastier the next day once the flavors have had a chance to meld. With naan or basmati rice, serve hot.

Yield: 4 dozen

Ingredients

  1. 1 ¼ cups vanilla-flavored whey protein powder
  2. 1 cup whole wheat flour
  3. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  6. ¾ cup white sugar
  7. 6 tablespoons sucralose and brown sugar blend (such as Splenda® brown sugar blend)
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 2 large eggs
  10. 1 (10 ounce) bag chocolate chips
  11. 1 cup chopped walnuts (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Combine whey protein, whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat butter, white sugar, brown sugar substitute, and vanilla extract together in a separate bowl until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing each one in fully before adding the next. Slowly beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts by hand.
  4. Drop tablespoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until edges are golden brown, 9 to 12 minutes. Let cool for about 2 minutes before removing cookies from the sheets and placing on cooling racks.
  6. You can use Splenda instead of white sugar for a lower-sugar alternative.
  7. You can use any type of morsels you prefer, and any of your favorite chopped nuts.

I used Orgain Vanilla Plant Based 50 Superfoods Protein Powder, Swerve Brown Sugar and WF Dark chocolate Sugar Chocolate chips. I accidentally misread recipe and only added 1 cup of chocolate chips. They came out great. According to MFP 90 cals per cookie.

Delicious cookie! I used chocolate flavored whey protein powder because that’s what I had. I made half of the recipe and got exactly 24 cookies using a medium cokie scoop. Baked for 12 minutes and they were perfect, crispy edges, soft centers. Will be making these often. Thanks so much for the recipe!

Great recipe and really easy to make! I used half as many chocolate chips as the recipe recommended, and cooked a bit longer (about 14 minutes), ended up with a perfect crispy outside and soft inside. Great flavor that makes you want to take just one more bite.
