My grandma made something similar when I was little… Unfortunately the recipe that everyone thought she used was not the same. I have tried countless recipes over the years and finally came up on this and decided to give it a try… OMG!!! It isn’t exactly the same but it’s so close that I literally burst into tears when I tried it. My grandma was a lot like me because she couldn’t follow a recipe exactly the way it was written either but it is still amazing. That being said I always always add extra cinnamon and a smidge of vanilla. I also used the red delicious apples that I had on hand and I was very worried because I know red delicious aren’t a good baking apple but they still turned out wonderful. I am planning to make this again tomorrow for my husband since he was out of town for work. I did buy some granny Smith just to see how a tarter apple will do. This is a keeper for sure and brought back so many good memories!!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!
It was so easy to make and was delicious! I followed the recipe as it is but using double quantities. I spread out the apple after adding into the batter.
This was delicious. I used half-cup of sugar instead of 1 cup, otherwise followed recipe as written. Used a 1.5 liter round baking dish (fairly tall sides) and it seemed the right size. Wasn’t sure how to add the cooked apples to the batter before baking – just kind of dumped them in the middle and the batter baked up around the “filling”. It was delicious, moist, and great warm with ice cream. A “different” kind of apple dessert that we look forward to making again soon!
It was very good and easy. I added the apples and mixed them in the bowl with pudding. I also added some walnuts and sprinkled the top with brown sugar. Added a little crunch and crusty top.
Did not make any changes to the recipe and came out excellent. The pudding was somewhat like a cake but very good. Will be making again.
Made it according to directions and it was delicious. Served it warm with ice cream
A great base cake. I think you could sub different fruits for the apples quite easily.
Add extra Apples to it and is very good served with Caramel sauce
Made it 3 times already. Use a hand whisk to ensure mixture is smooth, but that’s not super crucial. Definitely stir in apples with rest of mixture.
I added pecans and walnuts and it was delicious.
This recipe was quick and easy. I did and walnuts and raisins and a little allspice and nutmeg. I did find it a bit to sweet for me next time I will use 1/2 cup of sugar rather than the 1 cup it calls for
Hey, just had the random urge to make some cobbler and this was the first entry to pop up! I read some reviews and decided to do half-brown-half-white grain sugar, add in vanilla, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar when I served (with homemade vanilla Blue Bell, obv). It’s a simple enough recipe, slicing the apples is a little hard on the hands (I didn’t use baking apples, I just used what was available) but you do what you gotta do. My initial impression was that the batter was a tad soupy, with clumps of sugar that you can’t simply “combine”- I would advise y’all to use a hand mixer. My fork just didn’t cut it. It was super sweet, but the apples mellowed it out with the perfect level of flavor, and I was VERY impressed. Props to Miss LAURIE NANNI
I did change the recipe to accommodate my ingredients available. I used a can of apple pie filling, so I didn’t add much cinnamon and only 3/4 cup nut milk (almond). I replaced white sugar with brown sugar and cut it down as well. I added 1/2 cup of pecans and 1/2 c of raisins and no butter. I also gave it an extra 5 in the oven and stirred it all together… Quite yummy…. Probably would be great the original way, but we don’t use white sugar and rarely brown even… but since I already had the can of fruit ( can’t imagine how I even had that, as we do almost all our cooking by scratch) what the heck a little brown sugar was fine. My wife will be happy to have a yummy warm treat on a cold spring day.
Not bad, but, not perfect.
Super easy and delicious. Made it once it was yummy. The second time i messed up and mixed the cinnamon with the batter instead of the apples and it was waaaaay. Thats what made it a 5. i used white sugar. PS I poured the apples all over the top instead of just the middle. That way they are in every bite
Absolutely amazing! I’m 15, made this for a family party, and had to make another one because people loved it!
For a straight forward recipe and a pleasant after, this dessert ticks all the boxes. Very differently to mess this one up. Can’t wait to make it again in the future.
Pretty doughy and bland. It was better with ice cream, but I wouldn’t make it again.
I used 1 Granny Smith and 1 apple crisp apple, extra cinnamon and 1 tsp of vanilla. I cooked the apples in the microwave for 5 minutes. I then added them to the batter so it would all be combined and baked as suggested on 375 for 30 mins. I made a Carmel sauce to go with it. The sauce made all the difference. So easy and would definitely make again.
Fantastic! I substituted brown sugar for all of the white sugar and added a cup of chopped pecans. In addition, I stirred the whole thing together so the apples were distributed evenly. It was wonderful. Everyone loved it — and my husband asked me to make it again next week when his family comes for Thanksgiving.
I loved the recipe, but cut the sugar in half and added a teaspoon of vanilla to the apples. I also added chopped walnuts. Have made it twice, both times delicious.
