Ingredients

  1. ½ cup butter
  2. 2 cups self-rising flour
  3. 2 cups white sugar
  4. 2 cups milk
  5. 3 ½ cups blackberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Once oven temperature is reached, melt butter in a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Stir together flour, sugar, and milk in a medium bowl; batter will be slightly lumpy. Pour mixture on top of melted butter in the baking pan. Do not mix butter and mixture together.
  3. Drop blackberries into batter; if more crust is desired add less blackberries. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 1 hour.

Fabulous and spectacularly easy! Best with blackberries or frozen mixed berries. I just made it with mixed strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries and it was great. Throw on a scoop of ice cream…wow!

I only had 2 cups of berries, so I reduced all the other ingredients by about 1/2. I did it our ninja at 3:25. Baked in about 50 minutes. Looks great but I haven’t tasted it yet.

We didn’t want to heat up our kitchen during an abnormally hot summer. So, we cooked it in our grill in an iron skillet!! It was in the grill for about 40 minutes. We were monitoring the heat with a meat thermometer and the old toothpick method to make sure it was done in the middle. It was so incredible, we made another one two days later!! Can’t wait to use another of your recipes!!

I made this just as written. It is very good. Sweet-tart berries and the crusty part is sweet but not too sweet. I mixed my batter as I do muffin batter – just a bit lumpy. I’ll be doing this with other fruits as well but will likely add a touch of vanilla as just a preference of ours. Very good as is.

I used the flour/baking powder/salt combo, about 4-5 c blackberries, 1t cinnamon, 1t vanilla, and I dusted the berries in sugar before dropping them over the batter. I tried not to over mix the batter. I wasn’t sure about the whole melted butter on the bottom of the pan step, but I did it anyways and I’m glad. The bottom crust was both crisp and chewy. Super yummy. The family loved it!

Cut the recipe in half. Used brown sugar instead of white sugar. Next time will add a little sugar to the blackberries. All in all a delicious dessert.

Great recipe! I needed a smaller portion so I cut all the measurements in half. I also used frozen berries and added a spoonful of cornstarch, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and cinnamon. We loved it!

Excellent recipe. Didn’t have enough blackberries so supplemented with chopped fresh peaches. No changes to recipe otherwise; next time a little almond extract in the batter might add complexity of flavor and fragrance. Otherwise, couldn’t improve upon it if I tried!

It’s easy and delicious. I didn’t have self-rising flour so I used regular flour and 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder per cup of flour. It is so good! I will make it again.

Well I made it again. 2 baskerts of black berries,1 basket raspberries and 1 basket of blueberries. And also adedded 2 tsp vanilla to the flour mixture. To make self rising flour 2 cups flour and 2 and 2/3 tsp baking powder.
