Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1 ¼ cups self-rising flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¾ cup butter, melted and cooled
- 2 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (Optional)
- 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut (Optional)
- ⅔ cup miniature chocolate chips
- 1 unbaked frozen pie shell
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- Beat eggs in a mixing bowl until foamy. Add flour, white sugar, and brown sugar; beat into the eggs. Blend butter, milk, and vanilla extract into the egg mixture. Stir walnuts, coconut, and chocolate chips into the egg mixture; pour into the pie shell. Place pie onto a baking sheet.
- Bake in preheated oven until cooked through, about 1 hour.
- If you don’t have self-rising flour on hand, you can make your own by mixing 1 1/4 cup regular flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

I didn’t like it at all. Followed the recipe and turned out bad
Delicious. I followed the instructions listed, but I used almond extract instead of vanilla, on accident. It still came out really good though. Mine was puffed up like in the picture, but after some cooling time, the middle sagged down. I assume this is normal. also, using the mini chocolate chips, they still fell towards the bottom a little as it was cooking, but not very bad.
Self-rising flour is not necessary, I subbed AP flour with excellent results. I also omitted the coconut. Otherwise, this recipe is great exactly as written, a family favorite.
