In contrast to the haroset made with apples, this recipe is more like a treat. For a week, it can be kept in the refrigerator in a closed container.

Ingredients

  1. 6 large egg yolks
  2. ¾ cup white sugar
  3. ⅔ cup milk
  4. 1 ¼ cups heavy cream
  5. ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. 1 pound mascarpone cheese, at room temperature
  7. ¼ cup strong brewed coffee, at room temperature
  8. 2 tablespoons rum
  9. 2 (3 ounce) packages ladyfinger cookies
  10. 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Whisk together egg yolks and sugar in a medium saucepan until well blended.
  2. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil.

  4. Boil gently for 1 minute, then remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly.
  5. Cover tightly and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  6. Beat cream and vanilla in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.

  8. Remove egg yolk mixture from the refrigerator; add mascarpone cheese and whisk until smooth.
  9. Combine coffee and rum in a small bowl. Split ladyfingers in half lengthwise and drizzle with the coffee mixture. Arrange 1/2 of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 7×11-inch dish.

  11. Spread 1/2 of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then spread 1/2 of the whipped cream over top. Repeat layers once more.

  13. Sprinkle cocoa powder over top.
  14. Cover and refrigerate until set, 4 to 6 hours.

I substituted pecan shortbread cookies for the ” hard to find’ ladyfingers, and i added a little black walnut oil and sugar to my whipped cream. I think the cookies added a another flavor and texture to the dessert.

Incredibly good as is! I skipped the rum. Used more than double the coffee – a good coffee. Easy and fun to make – just lots of steps. Video is excellent – I dipped whole cookies using my fingers for milliseconds or coffee will be gone in 5 cookies – plus they’ll split from sog. Really bring cheese to room temp to get through the stirring quicker, or let the mixture sit for a few minutes then continue stirring. I used lg plastic /rubber whisk. Made a double batch in disposable 9.5 x 13.5 pan for a party (used 4 leftover cookies to make tiny home sampler) delicious even without overnighting. Don’t forget to plan the one hour to chill the egg/sugar/milk batch. No need for different recipe; I’ve made this several x’s – always great! Perfect

Wow, wow, wow! I went to 2 different stores and couldn’t find ladyfingers, so I used pound cake sliced into 1/4 inch slices, and that was perfect! Also used Kahlua instead of rum, based on suggestions, and let it sit overnight in the fridge before serving. My BIL, who is an incredibly cynical foodie, loved it! Definitely going into the family recipe file!

Flavor was good and everyone liked it. I wasn’t sure what “whisk egg yolks and sugar until well-blended” meant so I think I did it wrong; my mixture cooked clumpy although I kept mixing. I’m a bit inexperienced in that process, knowing how hard to mix and for how long was a big question mark. Lastly, I’m not sure about cutting the ladyfingers in half. I just went with the video style.

I made this the night before and was worried that it would turn out too wet, but it was perfect, much better than what I’ve had in restaurants. I substituted pound cake for ladyfingers because the store didn’t have any, and added sugar to the whipped cream. In the future, I’ll only sweeten the whipped cream lightly because there is enough sugar already in the custard.

I like this recipe butt having cooked Tiramisu for a long time, I have changed it up s bit depending on whose eating it. For younger children I use melted chocolate or chocolate syrup with a bit less coffee for the dip. I have topped it with fresh berries, bananas, etc after I have chilled the tiramisu for at least 6 hours. I then shave a little chocolate over. For adults I use liqueurs with expresso. I have used many different dips for the lady fingers but the filling never differs.

This is very similar to other 5 star recipes. It was easy to make. I’ve made tiramisu a number of times. This time I actually changed it by half. I literally added a layer of 8 oz cream cheese, 8 oz sour cream and 8 oz whipped cream. I use the blender to mix this and put in a teaspoon of vanilla and a packet of stevia, blended it well and that was the first layer over the lady fingers. Because of this I actually used four layers of lady fingers seriously drizzled with coffee and Kahlua. And yes I probably used about a half a cup of the coffee mixture. I also put a packet of stevia in The whipped cream. This is sort of like a play on cheesecake / tiramazu. It was delicious

I agree with many reviewers, more coffee. Also I whip the 6 egg whites that are not used til stiff and fold it into the mascarpone mixture. The egg whites make the entire desert so much lighter! So good!

This is the one recipe I have used repeatedly and my family and friends love it. I omit the rum part ( since most of us don’t drink) and I add a tablespoon of icing sugar to the whipping cream.

I love this recipe and make it all the time. A couple of tips: 1. Use a thermometer when cooking the egg, sugar, milk, otherwise I find it kind of hard to tell when it’s getting close to boiling. 2. Mix the Mascarpone in while it’s cold. I’ve made this a bunch of times and often when the mascarpone is room temp it will curdle and not turn out smooth. I blends in perfectly if you whisk it while cold. 3. I sweeten the whipped cream just a touch, otherwise it’s a bit plain. 4. Same as all the other reviews: at least triple the amount of coffee (I don’t usually triple the rum as it can end up tasting a bit boozy for my liking.

I love this recipe. It’s very easy and results in a very traditional tasting Tiramisu. I do the zabablione step (egg yolks, sugar, and milk) in a double boiler. I also increase the coffee, and use Marsala for a more traditional flavor.

I opted to omit the heavy cream and replace that step with Cool Whip and honestly it was better! Made it first time with real cream and I’m just not a fan I also built the recipe inside a trifle dish and it was absolutely beautiful! Crazy delicious and a huge hit with the family. Making it for the third time right now ALSO – TRIPLE Coffee & rum for those ladies~ 🙂
